best options for vocals?

I'm working on a midtempo/intro style/deep/tech house cover/bootleg of Jefferson Airplane's "Today", and I'm debating my options with regard to the vocals.

For reference to the original, hear here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4D5_QC5GB7I

I'm only planning on using the vocals from the verse (initially approximately 00:25-00:45, then again at 01:08, and again finally at 01:51), and debating whether or not to try to sample the original, re-record the vocals myself (which would be fine, but I don't exactly have the best equipment/situation for recording vocals), or find someone to record the vocal bits for me (as others have done here - and I have some vocalist friends who I'm sure would enjoy giving it a go as well, hurray for going to an art school!).

So yeah - anyone else tackled something like this? Recommendations any way to try, or routes you all think would be your first inclination?

I say try it yourself - what have you got to lose, besides time? Search these (and other) forums for threads pertaining to recording vox (there are a lot of them) and give it a go. You may be surprised, you may be disappointed, but one thing is certain: you'll learn by doing.
