So far I've got a few sample packs that use stuff from various sources, probably mostly freeware. As well as a pirated copy of reason 4 however I'm getting a real copy for christmas. I've also bought the sample/patch pack snorting audio psy refill vol1. or whatever its called, which was quite good. I don't really think I'll be needing anything more for music in general, so after christmas I'll be pretty much set. I notice no one else has voted yet. |

I've only got legal stuff and freeware. I just entered the d16 groupbuy for instance. Great deal, 3 good vst's for only 100E ! :)
It's still open for another 48 hours, and you get guaranteed minimum price :D |

I used only pirated software when I strted out. I had litterally NO money to soend on this
and fact was that I didnīt even know if I was going to like it or not.
It has always been a love/hate relationship throughout the years,
but nowadays itīs mostly love - even though I havenīt finished ONE track in 2 yrs.
And before that, it was 1 year since I finished that one.
Now I have all legit software. |

i would pay for software if i could: as it is i'm at uni, and all the cash i have goes towards staying afloat...
when i'm in a condition where i'm able to buy it i will be but atm ~$700 (AUD) for logic, not to mention any other VST/AUs i'd love is a bit beyond me :( |

really can't blame people. not everyone has 400$ to throw at a plug-in like it's cheap or something, because 400$ for software is expensive any way you look at it (unless it gives me sex, makes me breakfast and gets me high at the same time, then i'm game) |

Student discounts are worth looking into. I know Logic offer really good discounts, and lots of developers offer up to 50% off. Although when you have nothing spare that doesn't necessarily make it affordable i know (spent the last 3 years as a poor student!)
Personally I don't use anything pirated. I made the decision years ago that if I wanted to make money out of music, I wanted to make sure others got paid for their work too. Seems only fair to me!
It can be really frustrating though, especially when you feel that something would really add to your sound and you cant justify the money for it. I've made good use of limited trial periods for software, especially FX plugins in the past though, although on the one hand you get to use some top class plugins and it sounds great for two weeks, when the trial runs out you just end up wishing you could afford to buy them! |

You know that's quite a hypocrite statement to make, don't you? Same goes for EgosXII.
But then again, you're both probably aware of it :). |

you're literally saying people can't be blamed for having illegal copies of software... Come on, please tell me you're more intelligent than that. You chose to download it illegally, nobody else, so the only one to blame would be you.
Having illegal copies is always wrong. No matter how you put it. I do understand, and i used to do it as well, but is IS wrong and hypocrite to say it's not your own fault. |
