It's unfortunate how dance radio today is much different from dance radio before maybe 2002 or 2001. One could think if dance radio is EDM, there would be more overlap with the progressive and trance tracks that are at the top of playlist or what is heard in most EDM nightclubs, but this is not the case. When we first started producing we were aiming for dance radio, that was our target. We even came out and did the Megajam show in '04 with Party 105. However when we could not get airplay on most of the larger dance stations like KTU, or Party 93.1 in Miami we decided to shift our focus make music for us first, and make it so it could easily transfer over to the club world. This is working much better for us now ;)

Even though we're no longer on the line up, I hope that ATB has a good show in DC. I am sure it will, as it was pretty much sold out last time around. A lot of promoters ignored him in DC for years and still with confidence we brought him in Feb and we booked him again for Dec. Enjoy the party!

Radio shows are just a sad sad story over here :(

another sad story- that youre not going to be at the show anymore! Im sooooo sad...I had to be in the corner the whole time for you when you opened for randy and darude....i was dying not being able to be out rocking out with everyone else....I was looking forward to making up for it next week!!! :(

oh well, just means well have to come back down again!

I totally remember the good old days around the MD/DC/VA area. Back around 1999/2000, there use to be a radio show called Z104.1. They are alot like the current radio show Hot 99.5 and played a bit more EDM music. I remember when coming home from school, I'd always tune on Z104.1. I'd sometimes hear upbeat tunes like "Better Off Alone" by Alice Deejay, "Heaven" by DJ Sammy, "9 PM Till I Come" by ATB, "Castles in the Sky" by Ian Van Dahl, or even "South Side" by Gwen Stefani/Moby. They were also into the current stuff like pop music by Britney and NSYNC.

When Z104.1 was gone, Hot 99.5 seemed to be the only radio show that followed the style that Z104.1 promoted. They now play a blend of top 40 pop/rock/hip-hop music over and over again on that station. So you would hear Rihanna chanting "Umbrella" like 50 times every hour and a Britney track every hour too. It kinda gets repetitive. But some stations like 97.1, 107.3, and 106.5 continue to play old eurodance classics.

Oh here we go with the radio debate again. This is what I have to say,

Z-104 was a great station, and especially during the time of 1999 to 2001. I wrote a whole article about WWZZ-FM on wikipedia in late 2005 but of course it has been modified ever since. Overall, the station it self was very Dance intense during that period of time but when they knew the listeners were dropping, they had to make a huge improvements and of course when Clear Channel WIHT-FM Hot 995 came in to the picture in April 2001, it was double whammy for Z-104. Make that triple whammy for Z-104. Hot 995 was "Keep In Real" with Washington area's young demographics (age 12 to 39) while Z-104 was "Keeping Up With The Jones. The fact that Z-104 had a poor signal towards areas of Montgomery County as well as NW Washington DC, Hot 995 has all four corners covered. With 22,000 watts power, Clear Channel's Hot 995 was able to crush Z-104 within six months. Hot 995 was the solo provider for CHR/Pop music in the Washington DC area. Believe me, at time they thought they were God of CHR/Pop format in DC.

Now going back to Z-104. There were a lot of nay sayers about Z-104 was never true to EDM. My question is that, how can CHR/Pop station such as Z-104 can be true a EDM crowd, how does that work????? We were very fortunate to have station that did play some sort of EDM to a non-commercial crowd such as us here on TA. Z-104 did push a lot of the mix shows during the night time such as Bed Time Groove with DJ Fadi, Self, Bobby D, (yes, the Bobby D from B96 in Chicago), DJ Milkman, and of course DJ Spin (from Miami) , and this program ran every night of week from 11pm to midnight, 11pm to 1am on Thursday nights, and finally 10pm to midnight on Friday nights. And then, on weekends they had a mix show ran from 8pm to midnight and then Open House Party from Midnight to 5am. Hows that for a station broadcast popular music.

Z-104 was indeed a great station, hence why I am bring that old feeling back to the airwave with my radio station, but I do not have the power to monitor a station 24/7 It is what it is.

You guys from the DC area, def feel free to chime in.

Well not to get on the case of NYC Dance radio station. I am sure some of you NYTA feels different, but that is okay because we are all different in some ways.

Now as far as 103.5 KTU and Party 105.3 in Long Island, I really believe that WKTU was a decent station until they went to crap with Whoopi in the morning. What on earth was Clear Channel thinking. Seems all the big radio station owners such as Clear Channel, CBS, Citadel(ABC Radio) are such whores for female listeners. I guess that is where all the money is coming from. What I am trying to get you all is that at least you guys have a decent station and that is Pulse 887. I know what you all going to say about Pulse. Let just say, they will eventually improve their signal so the tri-state will able to hear it all. Their playlist is pretty decent and of course they do have some of best mix-shows around the east coast. Now if you can compare Pulse to Party 93.1 , of course Party 93.1 would win by a landslide. Just be greatful about what you all have.
