Yeah, but soft drinks, among other products full of calories, make it a lot easier for you to be obese.
Taking into consideration the current crisis, I think it's be a smarter move if healthy food got less taxed. It's pathetic how junk food is way cheaper than proper food (as far as I know, that's something Brazil and the US have in common). | that's because junk food is way way cheaper to make hence why its cheap to buy. |

Soft drinks will only make you obese if you drink lots of them. Nobody is forcing anybody to drink lots of soft drinks, or any at all. But I guess it is becoming rather obvious that people are no longer competent to take care of their own diets. |

Appears to be the recurring theme in the states :whip: |

Reason why you're free to decide whether or not you want to drink it if it gets more expensive ;)

I understand that, and I remember reading an article that explained how junk food became cheap thanks to quite a lot of tax breaks, so it's more than just being cheap to make. Regardless of that, it's a pity. |

| Decent idea. Bottled water should not be exempt, though, since it is essentially 100% economic waste. |

| Why don't they start a "War on Obesity"? New agency called the, "Obesity Enforcement Agency". Raid all fast food joints, burn all the burgers, jail all the fat people. |

Maybe they should just get rid of all those god damn vending machines that only sell carbonated beverages at middle schools and high schools. |

IMO, if you think "this isn't a terribly idea", it is simply in terms of unnecessary regulation = bad. |
Nope I think it's pretty necessary. Our city has a huge deficit. Proposing fare hikes and transportation taxes aren't making him any more popular. So, it makes sense to tax something that's been proven to be detrimental to our health. Do any of you guys know how bad "high fructose corn syrup" is for your health?
New York's (NYC I'm talking about now) been a few steps ahead in things like this, compared to other cities around the country: city bike lanes, leisure/park areas in the middle of the street, "green" taxi requirements, calorie-listing laws in fast food restaurants, etc... On many of these things, other cities around the country are following, or have already followed, in our footsteps. The money's gotta come from somewhere, and if it's from any more rent, gas, property, or miscellaneous taxes we pay, then the government fully understands that there will be millions of people fleeing the city for cheaper pastures. |

That's another thing New York's done. A lot of colleges don't have Coca Cola machines. I think it started because some lobby group disagreed with how they treat their workers in South America, but I think the city embraced it and I noticed a bunch of schools that don't have them anymore. |
