It's not a point of view, people say it to avoid saying Merry Christmas.
Why not say Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year?
I mean, technically Jews could be offended by the fact that you're infringing on their rights to have their own calendar, but no that would be silly wouldn't it? |

I say joyeuses fêtes. its shorter, includes xmas + ny + includes any other religious/pagan tradition. most people have rituals concerning the solstice winter (xmas was a pagan tradition) or the beginning of the new year. |
