Second song - lots of compliments. Criticism?

Hey so this is like the second song i made on fruity loops. its a minute long so take a gander if youre really bored and have a minute to spare. im a noobie at this ive taken a music class before i wanted to mess with the music studio program but i wanted to play around with it before i got technical with it and i made this. i never used the mixer, just the piano roll and presets. but for what it is my (very critical ) friends actually thought this wasnt bad. so id like to hear from you guys, any words of criticism in terms of musicality rather than production skills.

Hi there!
First things first , i was supposed to redone that tune for you , but i got a virus and lost a lot of stuff,
to the posted item then!
Again the music melody side isnt bad , but you deffo need to start to learn the production side of things.Read up , research and try out different things and look into external programs ,bar fl's inbuilt stuff.
keep at it |

my girlfriend likes it and I think it would make a wicked electro house tune. Its funky musically very interesting some good syncopation Good for a second song man!
I agree with adi u will enjoy learning to produce but its hard i must have read more books in the last 3 years than my whole life including school books!
Long road man |

ive been listening to music conceptually for years since i played piano when i was younger. which is why i think i was able to use FL for the first time so easily. and i think this song is really easily remix-able. So if you make a remix of this song, id love to hear it. The song is called Raticate.
Happy holidays!
@ adi - will do buddy. youre the reason i took a music class last semester =P you AND my professor told me i had a lot of potential.
and youre the reason i used more traditional instruments for this song, cuz i just dont have any production skill. I was rly anxious to hear what you would do with something i made. try this one out instead? |

Hey there , ive download the project file and will look at it soon, but theres a couple of days before i can do anything obviously lol.
So you took music lessons because of me   lol
Well tbh i need a few lessons to brush up myself on a few things but i will have a crack and get back with something on your tune.
have a good xmas anyways |

Hi there , ive managed to throw this together for you.
Ive kept some stuff of the original project but ive removed all the rock sounds and replaced them with synths and threw in some filtering for good measure. All the midi files have been untouched too.
anyways here you go

hahah that was good dude!
see you have the production skills im looking to get.
if its just one thing i can criticize (with the best of intentions), and i know that you just threw this together quickly and what not, but i was hoping you would also incorporate my ideas of organization. like the stops and the transitions and all that. cuz i also just threw that song together in under an hour. if you are bored enough i wanna see you try to keep the orchestration or whatever you wanna call it, while adding in the production skills you have. like you can tweak the transitions that i made, and make them sound pro like you do, while still keeping the feel of the song you know what i mean? and the heavy bass. i liked the raw-ness and heaviness because it worked pretty well with the funk i had going on. you can replace the sounds, but maybe replacing them with synthetic sounds that have the same feel to it as the traditional instruments might allow for sustaining the feel. like have a heavy raw synth instead of that slap-bass, and a dirty sounding synth instead of the distorted rock-guitar, etc.
i liked your mix a lot, and thanks a lot for doing that, really.
if you DO have the time though and youre bored enough see if you can try to keep the groove in it. this was like cool a trance version.
otherwise dont even worry about it. im saving this mix anyways =P |

hey
I know you want your existing version to sound pro but here's my explination.
Fl studio is a great start pad for music production and its in built items like styrus , slayer and wasp etc etc are there to help you make music in an all in one package.
But
I learnt a different way , i never touched any inbuilt stuff at first.I heard everyone raving about refx vanguard so i got that and read the instructions and used that heavily at first.I used the samples of hi hats and such but the instruments i didnt touch at all.
Further reading and research means i use a whole load of soft synths (VSTi) and now use hardware which give my productions the pro sound ive always dreamed of.
Ill admitt that in only a short time producing (i guess a year ago i knew as much as you) that i have spent so much time and money on this hobby and its cost me alot , but i love it and wish i could produce full time.
So in harshness lol, again your piano roll notes (midi) are very good and complex , but dont suit the instruments you are using.
So in fairness i think you should look at the wider spectrum of producing and research what type of music you want to make.
I love trance and thats the style i like to make but you might like the more guitar anthem type more.
The second thing is arrangment. The way a song is laid out makes a difference.Trance tends to be a buildup to a cresendo to a buildup and so on , but again different styles need different structures and thats where the research comes in again lol.
And on a final note
:wtf:
Im only a half noob myself and discover new stuff all the time. Its all about patience and practice.
But anyways keep posting up here anything you finish and someone will comment surely
And keep at it |

Fair enough buddy. i totally get where youre coming from. and youre right. im taking all the advice youre giving me anyways. i remember you commenting on how many artists work in duos. i was trying to see if, through you messing with my loops, you might be the yin to my yang. i have musical ability and you have production skill. If youd like i can make a load of riffs that would cater to different types of instruments. and you could mess with them however youd like, and we could throw the project files back and forth and see what the outcome is. i meant nothing but respect for what you do, im trying to get there. if this is un-realistic and you just wanna do your thing then its cool, id be going down roughly the same road eventually, but it would be really cool if we could both benefit from eachothers differences. If there IS something i can provide for you that you could use in your tracks then let me know. i like most of your tracks, but i do think some could use more musical progression ON TOP OF the cool effects you have goin on.
let me know! |

| Yeah , if you want to do something like that , i will be glad to help , but in the mean time make sure your learnin about production yourself. But yeah throw some midis my way and we can see what we can do.And on the note of progression lol its not my strongest point but if you can do some tunes that you think would be good PM them to me and we'll go from there. |
