Airbase!

Airbase
Hello everyone! Im Jezper, aka Airbase. I was told to search this forum for "airbase" and read all the topics and posts that had been posted about me. Instead of answering to tons of old topics, I thought I could post one topic and answer some of the questions that you've had during the time!

When it comes to production, yes I use Reason only. No hardware are used in realtime. I have my Yamaha CS2x for controlling Reason-functions thru MIDI, but no sounds are taken from that one. In Reason I almost never uses default sounds from the Soundbank, instead I have collected some of the coolest samples and grooves there is. Also complete soundsbank dumps from synths like Novation Supernova, Roland JP-8080 etc.

About Ionize, that one was named Atlantis before it was finished, but then changed, thats true. That track is soon licenced to Gesture Music. Dont know why, I dont like it myself (well, I like the intro, until the hook comes in, that hook doesnt fit with the rest of the track, and should have been in another track, IMO).

The Scarab was created because Airbase, the name, is exclusively licensed to Alphabet City, but when it comes to styles, its pretty much the same! Soon I will launch a new alias, when (as it seems) I sign with Nordic Records. This is not settled yet, I will meet up with them week 25, and discuss this!

Now you know :-)

so you don't make your own samples then? :toocool:

Dreamer is a MINT track mate. Me wants on 12"!!

Airbase
please define "make your own samples"? You mean that I make the sound or that I sample the synths that I use samples from?
(strange wordcombination there :-)

sup airbase...just wanted to say that i like some of your tracks and from reading your bio that you have inspired me to focus more on my production..right now im using fruityloops and im trying to learn reason, and i gotta say that it looks pretty intimidating when you first load it up...could you give me some pointers on how to get started or if not, just give me some insight on how you make your loops and melodies...thanks...

when you say you 'collect' samples that kinda gives me the idea that you don't make them.. what kind of samples are you talking about anyway? (im not trying to be rude, I just don't quite understand)

dj kinetica: Hi there and thanx!

About Reason, it sure looks very heavy when looking at it the first time. But dont be frightened, its very logical and easy. I was stupid not to read the readme-file with the instructions how to use reason, so I learned it all by myself, and I still find new cool features that I use! If you want some pointers, the big one should be, focus on the drums, make drumpatterns that you havent heard before, just play around with different notes on different locations to get some goovy grooves. A great tip is to shuffle all the drums (In the sequencer, at the top right, choose Shuffle, then quantize it all), then you get a very very cool groove, reminding alittle about marco Vs grooves.
How I make my melodies etc, is very hard to explain. Often I throw in a sampler, picks up a sound I like, makes some decent settings with attack, release and filters, some reverb and some delay, and then I can sit for hours just testing things on my synth, that controls reason! (I play on my synth, and out comes the sounds from the sampler in reason. this needs a good soundcard so you can minimize the latency).

Something like that?

Sorry, my bad, I didnt mean collect as in "downloading from everywhere", I mean I sample from synths I get over, my friends, some that I have borrowed from here and there, I also make my own samples with softwares (FM7, sometimes the subtractor, sometimes from my CS2x). I can get really fonky sounds when combining a sound from the CS2x and one from JP-8080,, as tthey sound so different!
