New Monitors! Placement?

hey guys I just got myself a pair of behringer B2031A TRUTH monitors, and I'm looking for some advice on setting them up. My room is 8.1' H x 11.25' L x 10.33' W. There is a 6 x 4 ' window on the Width of the room.
I've looked up some material on how to place them, thankfully the room is not cubic (which i read is very bad), and that I should make sure I place the monitors so that they are approximately head level, And make sure that the distance from the monitors to any wall in the room is not equal to , or a multiple of any dimension in the room. I also have read that placing a large comforter style blanket over my window will help trap bass, and that the monitors as a rule of thumb should be placed along the longest dimension of the room.
Is there any other important information to consider when setting these babies up? or perhaps does anyone have experience with these monitors in similar room dimensions.
Any advice is greatly appreciated,

away from the walls.
in a way that isn't symmetrical( same distance to the wall from each speaker side )
there is some math involved for exact placement and treatment but i'm sure someone has already posted it somewhere here. |

| Is it consequential to face away from the monitors? So that my back is facing the monitors, will this effect the sound at all? |

For best listening, try to make sure that your ear is level with the area between the tweeter and lf driver.
Also, it's a good idea to angle them so that they both face inwards, directly at where you will be sitting, forming a sort of triangle if you drew invisible lines between you and each speaker |

I remember reading a few documents from mackie about this matter.
A good placement for the speakers is about one meter away from a wall, each speaker symmetrically placed around your head, the tweeters should be directly feeding your ears. Of course this is far from easy in some cases.
I can't do that here in my living room. So they're placed like 15cm away from the wall. But fortunately my bx5 have only 5" woofers and I placed them on speaker stands.
So, if as far as possible away from the walls and 60° for each angle between your head and the speakers. On some of them, there's even a switch for those in the same situation (on the 824's for example).
Well that's what the documents say for stereo mixing. Now it's really up to you. In each case, listen to the stuff in your car once mixed, and then on headphones, onto an ipod. |

Thanks for all the advice, I Think i've got these baby's set up pretty nice, Sound levels are pretty even throughout the room, and my mixes seem to be much more accurate.
I must say that these Behringer B2031A's are absolutely insane for the price, they produce a very wide soundstage, and the bass response is punchy but realistic.
First Mix to come from these is almost done, I'll be sure to post it up soon! |
