2008 Tune of The Year....
View this Thread in Original format

another years passes, many good tunes, many rubbish tunes, however its time for me to post more rubbish about my favourite tune of 2008, and keen to hear input and recommendations from other TA'ers....

with past winners including Alex Stealthy - Able To Forget and Glenn Morrison - Hydrology, i expect this to become an annual post...

2006 - Alex Stealthy - Able To Forget
2007 - Glenn Morrison - Hydrology

2008 - Astrid Suryanto - Distant Bar (Gutterstylz Mix)

This tune has summer written all over it.. A perfect blend of solid prog, mixed with lushious summer chords and a perfect sexy vocal over the top, this tune is hypnotising. You could be inside with a storm going on outside, however this tune automatically puts you on the beach.... Amazing track, much love to Astrid's vocals...

apologies go to -

Patch Park - Got That M!
Robert Babicz - Dark Flower (Joris Voorn's Magnolia Mix)
Pryda - Rakfunk

I've kept a top weekly tune for each of the 52 weeks in 07 and now 08 but can't remember for the life of me which tune stood out the strongest for me until I get home and consult my list.. :)

lotta good tunes this year, but as y'said there were a fair few rubbish tunes this year too!

stay tuned, I'll consult my list and decide on my top tune in a few hrs.. :toothless

hmm, just rechecking my list, there were no absolute standouts for me - BUT a fair few very close contenders...

honourable mentions go to:

W&W - Countach
Mike Koglin & Nick Larson - Untitled (Part One)
W&W - Arena
ReWard - Contrast (Intro Mix)
Stargazer feat. Cherry - Running Scared (M6 Remix)
Aitor Ronda - Bolaian Buyaka (Reaky Remix)
Inertia - The System (Jon O'Bir's 'From Within' Remix)
Simon Patterson - Smack
Stoneface & Terminal - Blueprint (Club Mix)
Joint Operations Centre - New Jersey

but strangly enough i think, this year, it's a tie between:

Skunk Anansie - Brazen Weep (Richard Durand Mix)
Armin van Buuren feat. Sharon Den Adel - In And Out Of Love (Richard Durand Remix)

he's done some wicked stuff over the last few years and some shockers but these kind of booming epic mainroom tech sounds really farken do it for me and this year he's delivered that to me perfectly in these two tunes.. heard brazen weep thanks to a mate's recommendation and heard in and out of love as armin closed his 9hr armin only set with it and my jaw hit the deck.

good year for trance, but also a few pieces of poo out there as well.. i hope for my sake i get back into the melodic stuff in 09, tech is awesome but i really do love too much of it :haha:

p.s. i was going to have 'midway - monkey forest (jonas stenberg remix)' as my number one tune but i've had it since late last year so technically it's an 07 tune fer me.. shame, i ing love it :D

I have been complaining for a long time about the quality of trance getting released but 2008 absolutely farking dominated imo :D

Couldn't possibly pick one out of so much gold.
Light The Fuse
koen groeneveld - wake turbulence

heaps of awesome tunes this year but if i had to choose one...

Tom Colontonio - Infinity Passage

could just as easily have 10 others though
Joey Amen
so so so many to choose from,

really liked burning from the inside by Tenishia and the last time by thrillseekers, loved going wrong as well by armin and shah, those 3 tunes definatly up there for me :)

hmm. pretty tough to single out one track, but i think 'simon patterson - smack' just might edge out ahead of the pack. very honourable mentions to 'vibrasphere - autumn lights (all mixes)', 'ferry corsten - shanti', 'magnus - lifeforce', 'indecent noise - touchline' and the astral projection remix of 'push - strange noise'. don't think j00f put any singles out this year, but you can add the 00db artist album mix on psy trance euphoria as album of the year :D

i don't listen to enough music any more, but here's my take. couldn't split them:

pryda - wakanpi. massive big-room progressive. love everything about it.

georgia - ode to 99 (i think this was '08). so old-school that it made me crack out my MOS Clubbers Guide to Trance CD.

ferry corsten - made of love, shanti & brainbox. made of love because it's a vocal track without being too cheesy (armin take note), shanti for its epicness (is that a word?), brainbox for that killer lick at the end of the breakdown which caved my head in summadayze.

that is all. best year of music in ages.
