I have an absolutely massive CD and DVD collection, in addition to all the stuff i download.
But there is a difference from downloading and selling pirated DVD's. The end downloader is not making any money on the process. The pirates in the stores are SELLING somebody else's work, without permission.
It is a fine line, I know, but the distinction is important. As a consumer of movies, I am not willing to pay somebody for their illegal activities. I don't they deserve anything. |
but you are paying somebody for their illegal activities. The torrent sites you goto have adds that pay the website when you go on. Then the website gives the uploaders a cut of the money. So in a way you are helping them. I had a friend that was an uploader that made a killing doing that. |

seriously. they need to these guys hard or it won't stop. I can only assume that existing laws are too lenient?
There was an interesting article not too long ago (in BusinessWeek, I think) regarding this and other problems in China. The black market there is posing a major problem as it so negatively impacts China's economy...and the gov't is struggling to crack down on it and various other negative aspects of the economic boom (like envrionmental waste, workplace safety, etc). |
I was at the car show a few years back and came across the sunglass booth...
Horrible Oakley knock offs...
I walked up the police booth about 50 feet away and told the cop that they were selling counterfeit merchandise...
The cop shrugged his shoulders and said what can I do...
I told him I loved seeing my tax dollars at work and walked away...
They GEEV!!!
And I'm sure they buy these vids as well... |

In both cases, you are profiting from an illegal activity.
If that fine line makes you feel better about ignoring that truth, more power to you. |
