Did anyone see the Jeremy CLarkson programme about Germany yesterday and their sense of humour?
It was quite interesting. Just 6 minutes a day... |

If you were actually to use the whole quote, theres a rather cheeky Smilie at the end of it, meaning I wasn't entirely serious, as thats a phrase proven to piss people off, and my aim was to piss Icebreaker off, because he was being a complete bastard :p |

It's hilarious, don't miss it next Friday at 9:50pm where he visits Spain, the "sponge" of Europe :D
He basically travels Europe, finding the culture, but if you know Jeremy Clarkson, you'll know he's funny as , and obsessesed with cars with big engines and basically acting like a tit.
Apparently a recent study shows that the average Brit laughs for 15 minutes a day, while the average German laughs just 6 minutes. The bit about East Germany was the best. The pregnancy rate in East Germany is the lowest in the world. He also tried to find out why Germany ship their crappest wines to the UK. He gave people in a German street "blue nun" and asked them if they liked it, and most did! He concluded that they 'think' they are exporting the nicest stuff.
He also exposed some weird laws in Germany. Apparently you need a license from the government to play golf, and pay an annual fee of £700! It is also legal to run over small dogs, and in some places in East Germany illegal to feed your cat in the garden on a Sunday I think.
He also found a hotel that recreates the grimness of East German accomodation, and a "laughter clinic" where people force out laughter in a big group in this church for hours on end, with a head person teaching them what to do! Weird! They were barking round like chickens and all sorts.
All I can suggest is watch it next week. He has a particular disliking for Spain so it should be good!
It's all to be taken with a pinch of salt of course, this is Jeremy Clarkson after all. He went to Belgium and found some very weird stuff. one sport is betting on where in a field a cow will . You bet on a square, and thousands arrive to watch it. The one he went to people drove miles to see it, waited an hour, then left. |

I think this has got a little out of hand. I know you may have seen some things as offensive, but they r said day a=i and day out in england. So it was not suprising to see them in the uk forum. Where to be honest you dont expect to see people from other cultures.
We need to invent a new forum language so we can chat without other people knowing what we say.
But i am sure it was all ment in fun.
So chill out everyone :) |

Hmmmmmmm so much for an international community . . .
Icebreaker is banned from this forum (this happened last night), He can't even see the UK forum haha
Oh btw, just cos a member is not English, French, American, Dutch etc
does NOT mean they can not visit other regional forums.
The UK forum does NOT belong to UKTA's, it belongs to every member of TA, so they can come here and see what the scene is like here as with the other regional forums.
U all jump on Gouryella etc for being racist, I can't see any difference in what U are doing here.

Fair enough mate but the uk forum is the uk forum. Where people from the uk speak. You would expect uk feelings to spill over in the uk forum.
This isnt acceptable in any other forum on ta. But i dunno.
Im patriotic. But im not racist, atleast i try not to be.
But i am sure if you could understand other forums u would see comments like this mad,e just we cant understand them :)
Anyway we r all equal on this forum. So nobody is better than anyone else. Except England are better than argentina. For the moment anyway :).
P.s At Football :D |

No doubt someone will get all riled up, but isn't it the Germans who are famous for eating lots of meat?
I agree with Wicked Neo, a UK forum is to discuss UK matters, not just for UK people, but telling people to "shut the up" breaches that civility. If people feel this forum is a nest of racism they should criticise constructively. |

no...you guys started talking about WW2 (and even if it's just an old joke, it isn't funny at all)
anyways, please don't get me wrong...i don't hate you guys or something, but i don't like the way you talk about us...and if i'd say the same things you said about us you'd probably call me a nazi |

Let's just put it down to a cultural difference. A lot of Americans don't understand British humour either.
The football chant has been sung in German games without causing much offence, and from what I've seen most Germans seem more ashamed of their Nazi past than anything, just as most Brits aren't pleased we ruled the 7 seas tyrannically for the most part of a millenium.
Also, the "two world wars and one world cup" remark slightly takes the piss out of ourselves too (this is the British style humour many others don't understand) because you guys have actually won more world cups than us so it's not exactly something to tease Germans about. That's the whole point of the joke. The world wars bit has that 'shock value' about it which makes people laugh, because it's a sensitive issue you're not really expected to bring up in front of Germans, but when we started chanting it to thousands of Germans it broke the taboo. |
