- Here's the 192kbps speedyshare version.
I'm working on a remix of Art of Trance's, Madagascar.
I realize it's probably over-mixed and over-played. The original track and its initial spawn of remixes from producing legends such as Cygnus X and Ferry Corsten have populated trance sets as far back as I can remember.
The Mitsubishi had just taken a firm hold as I sat and realized, listening to this tune, that producing music was something that I really wanted to do. It was that moment of realization - the epiphany. This thing has been bopping around in my head, ever since, and this mix, in its way, is my attempt at exorcising its intermittent appearance in my immediate consciousness.
It's a ridiculously simple tune and I haven't imbued my rendition with a great deal of ego. I hope you'll take a listen and, please, feel free to critique. The more specific you can get, positive or negative, the better. |

Sucks. Specific enough? :conf: |

I was hoping for some information that would allow me to deduce that your criticism was valid and qualified and not the sort of murmuring, passive-aggressive pap heard in the adversarial relationships known to the average seventh-grader and their bellowing, alcoholic step-parents. |

I don't like the sound with the really open filter. It's too harsh for my taste and I don't know if it really fits the atmosphere of the tune.
The other sounds in here are nice, though, very trancey / spacey, right up my alley. :)
Overall I really like this track, very old-school sounding, and the breakbeat in the second half is a nice change of pace. Enjoyed. |

Okay, you are right. It's a wonderful track which will succeed on the dance floors, world wide! Happy? :) |

Listening.
it starts out nicely, the open filter sound could maybe been a little lower in volume.
I like that bassy acid kind of sound, might be a tad loud though, cool clap.
The Madagascar leads that comes in 1/3 of the tune sound a tad harsh to the ears and undefined.
The break with pads is a good idea i think, but again.. the sound of the pad doesnt sound as good as i think it should have.
The second part of the lead sounds better than the first, but i dont think the arrangement u chose for kicking the track back in was too good.
Overall i think its a good idea for a remix, but i think the main lead gotta be alot stronger.. as it seems too undefined to me.
And the arrangement could have been better, as the tune looses its flow at alot of places. |

Thank you, Subtle and Mr. BoJiveJangles.
You both gave me some insight that confirmed the ideas I was having about the distorted bass saw (too loud/unfiltered), the lack of definition in the beginning lead, the break string-pad - I think it's a little shallow and loud, myself, and the re-entry arrangement - a bit of a jolt.
Whateva,
You'll be happy to know that I quit my job and have sent a copy of my portfolio to all of the major labels, including Platypus. I haven't heard anything back, yet, but your compliment really got the ball rolling on my own decision. My girlfriend is freaking out because now I don't have a job and she insists you were being sarcastic but it is my belief that you were just trying to be helpful and correct for your earlier joke about how it sucked. THANK YOU!!! ;) |

| i didnt think it was bad at all. i just think you need to play with your riffs and rythm a little more. even if its not changing the loops themselves, but you can cut out the first half of each measure as an intro pattern with only the kick drum going and eventually as yo ucreat a little build up, smack in the face with thhe full drum loop and full crazy riff. |
