Quick (and possibly stupid) question

What is the name of the equipment you find in hospitals next to beds displaying people's vitals as waveforms, that flatline in movies when people die? I honestly can't think of the name for them. There's a joke in Monty Python's Meaning of Life where the doctor calls it "the thing that goes ping", so maybe this is a harder question than it seems.
If you want to know why, I'm writing a short story and the... thing that goes ping... is a reasonably important bit of symbolism in a scene. |

Cardiac monitor.
Or ECG / EKG. |

| Winrar. Thanks for that. I had no idea what to type into Google, and "hospital heart rate machine thing" wasn't very helpful. |

Really? The first result says "Heart rate monitor" and the second says "ECG" |

Okay, you got me. I assumed "Hospital heart rate machine thing" would be a stupid search, so I didn't do it and went on TA instead.
I've not come out of this thread in good light, really. |
