Having spent a bit of time there, Denver is a great city.

35-40k gross annually is enough to get a decent place in the burbs, either renting or buying. I found several apartments in the 800-1000 dollar range, and some of the houses in the suburbs similar to mine in cbus had me paying 1k or so per month mortgage. If i remember correctly, sq footage was ranging from 700-1200 feet (2-3BR, 1-2Bath)

The transport system in Denver is pretty solid for such a large city, better then I've seen in most. They have an excellent rail system that will get you where you need to go city-wise and my experience of their rush hour has been about as positive as it can be. There's a toll road that will get you places quickly and their airport is top notch.

The culture in Denver is a weird mix of east coast/mid-west exiles and Californication. Of course the immigrants come from everywhere; I found a significant Mexican presence near the Capitol though there was a lot of yuppie commercialism too.

I think you'd enjoy it as a whole, it's got a lot of the benefits of a chicago or new york without all of the big city grime. Still sort of a blank canvas in that regard...

wearing layers shouldn't be a problem for rjt. does it get colder than the midwest during the winters?

Not typically, no. My point was that it can change from very cold to really fair here in only the course of a few hours as Denver's weather is quite erratic.

Visited Denver in September of 2007. Although the main purpose for going there was to see Underworld, my dad and I spent a fair bit of time with a family friend of ours that lives there. It's quite the nice little area, not to mention that a beautiful drive through the Rockies is practically right there.

I really do like the area. I couldn't see myself settling down there at all (I'm more of a port-city type person), but I'm definitely planning on visiting it some time soon.
