No Music?
View this Thread in Original format
Joss Weatherby
Sometimes I go through periods where not only do I not feel like making music, but I don't even listen to it at all.

Then a week or two later I go all nuts and bust out three songs in a weekend.

Feels like to me I am manic/depressive but in the sense that my mind goes to this technical mode where I over analyze thing and then swings to a mode where I am just gushing with ideas.

Anyone get these dry spells?

Maybe I need more booze? Oh and I need to be more depressed, that seems to helps too. :conf:

Oh, the dry spells.

I haven't finished a tune since June... until yesterday.

I tit about in Ableton constantly, not with the intent of making tunes, just trying/learning new things, I only go balls deep into a tune when something sparks. So my "dry spells" are when I'm messing around and nothing strikes out as something I want to pursue.

And on another note, there is always a need for more booze ;)

Yea, dry spells are tough, I usually try to get some DJing done, or try to come up with some sort of lead sound during down times.

Remix of Drift Away? :) Either way I can't wait to hear it.

Yeah, that was my first thought when I read it. Usually when I get a creative block, I try to find new music to listen to in the hopes of stimulating some new ideas.

Joss - yep, it happens. Roll with it. About all you can do is either (1) find other ways to occupy your time when nothing creative is happening, or (2) try to force it - whatever works for you.

I've gone a week without listening to music before. When I started listening to it again, it felt weird.

Music is pretty addictive.
