From what I know of, they will dismiss this. They can't change the ticket after the fact.

Unfortunately, these kinds of citations tend to be more hefty because the city gets only a percentage of the fine and a big chunk will go to the private company that operates these cameras.

I got caught on camera for a not coming to a full stop("California Roll") while making a right turn when it was red. I went to the court to ask for a fine reduction because I thought $350 was too steep. The judge told me that in camera cases, they can't reduce the fine. Ugh.

Sad thing is, more and more private companies are getting rich alongside the government. The gov should be taking in all that money, not splitting it 2 or 3 ways.

As far as fighting it, i found this:

Just google "fight red light camera ticket california" and you get an endless amount of sites giving you the do's and don'ts on fighting it.

Someone should take this whole thing to a court

Companies & Cities cannot have any part of the fine calculated in with the intent to earn profit.

The city of SF got in huge trouble a couple years ago because someone was boneheaded and in their budget discussed how much money they expected to make off of parking tickets, intersection cameras, etc etc. The uproar was that the fines are in place to penalize people and not supposed to be a means for the city to earn revenue.

It's actually illegal to see revenue from tickets in that way..

So privately they can, but publically ti's a big no-no. :p

I am probably making no sense. ignore me.

This actually applies to ALL red light violations. There are two violations that a judge (at least in California) can NOT lower due to minimum fines. These two are HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle, aka carpool lane) and red light violations.

When you go back they will show you 2+ different angles of video from the citation.

So yeah, you can fight it. But just be warned they will have the video already cue'd up.

That media is already available on their website for you to view beforehand.

you're supposed to stop before the line at a red light. if you want to turn on a red, then you can proceed after you've stopped. passing that line on a red is considered running a red. that's what the judge will tell you. in the same respect, if you "run a yellow" as long as your front axle passes the line before it turns red, you're in the clear even if your car is still passing through the intersection when another light turns green.

Here's what you're supposed to do by law that NO ONE ever does. Sucks that you got caught for it.

You're supposed to stop fully behind the line and THEN creep up a little past so you can see if if its safe to turn or not.

Light turns red as I approach intersection to make a right turn unto the freeway. I pass the line, *snap shot*, stop, move foward to see if any traffic is coming from my left and then proceed turning left. There isn't a sign that says "No right turn on Red" either.

i think there lies the problem. you turned left when you're supposed to make a right :conf:
