Yup! Indie went off the air yesterday. :( But they kept their online stream. Rumor has it, they're switching back to spanish.
For the last couple of months, Indie has been broadcasting EDM on their HD2 Channel. It would be sweet if they bring EDM back to 103.1. But, all signs point to this.

Was cruising by UCLA this Thursday had nothing to listen to and the station popped up... I was amazed they ran some commercial by 3 times in one 5 minute period begging their listeners to switch to the online stream as they would be leaving the air. I couldn't understand the sarcasm of that message but it was saying something about playing mainstream/Britney Spears so I don't know if they hinted at that, going to the JackOff FM format or if it will be completely different.
The 103.1 station has always been doomed from the start even in the early 90s when it was that awesome dance MARS FM station and more recently when it was the KDLE electronica/dance channel and they had Ferry Corsten and DJ Irene hosting some of the shows. It was the only station where they had radio commercials for current dance CDs (at the time) going on sale like some Digweed stuff, Nyana, and Corsten. That ran from about 2002-2003 and was shortlived as I heard rumors of KIIS-FM :nervous: intervening to get them off the air as the dance station was stealing their audience and ratings I think they might have bought em out hahah but its super hard to pick up that frequency in the inland empire or orange and god help you if you live near the mountains.
Good riddance to that "indie" crap and hopefully dance music will be back there soon! :tongue3 |

Yeap! I remember the old Mars FM. Actually, a fellow TA used to be an on air personality on Mars. ;) Than Groove 103.1 was cool when it first started, then it took a dump.
But it looks like Indie is long gone now. It has officially switch to EL GATO! |
