So u have me, an inspiring DJ, simply i love music im mainly rap and R&B old and new school but i s with some pop. My favorite Producers are the Neptunes,Timberland, and Kanye, so i fee the need to test the platforms of Trance and hip-hop (separately). Im familiar with Fruity loops but wasnt really interested in Techno/Beat/Trance etc. but hittin up the clubs on that "bitch i might be" mode im feeling it and feel that soo much more could be done with hiphop/trance, i mean i not gonna over do it. But I can see those Clones in the club dancing to N.E.R.D's Everyone Nose with some hard as trance bass and kick already. I dont have any experience or equitment. So i figure i'll start by going crazy with some Trance beats for a few months to catch the feel, then sometime in the summer start pickin up dj equipment and see where it takes me. Any Advice from you folks?

If you haven't checked out any drum and bass music I might suggest that first.

Spittin over a trance beat might be a bit hard.

There are more MCs in the harder styles of dance music like hardcore, hardstyle, stuff like that but it ends up being pretty cheesy sounding.

Id say just listen to a lot of trance first, but I dont know I have been into trance for a long time now, and my younger brother produces rap and raps and honestly we have had discussions like this before and we both can never think of anything that would really work out.

Thats not to say dont try.

Trance is dying, haha maybe something like this can save it? :p (ok thats sort of a joke, but seriously, the genre is stale like a bag of month old chips).

Trance isnt dying in the US at least. People go just to do the drugs and they are forced into listening it.

In any case, i started with trance and moved to house. House beats are much easier to dance to and its really easy to put MCs behind it. Theres people like MC flipside and Dizzee Rascal that rap to a house beat.

I think right now, the easiest youll get into is electro. Electro is sadly becoming the new indie and electro is blowing up (at least in socal). Its the easiest to transition from top40/rap to electro because of 8 bar mixing. I kick it oldschool and do 16-32 bars for each mix :D .

Basically if youre DJing, DJ what you love. Youll move onto other genres if you like what you hear and itll move over naturally. Top40 is easy though, you dont have to maintain the mixing for as long. People in socal all do house and electro to top 40 and its a lot harder competition over here.

Knowing basic music theory helps too :D

im soo excited for me to start doing this, I have some friends that do hiphop shows, so thats where ima start my basic mixing techniques, and work with trance/electro on the side and see if i can grow as a Dj, otherwise i wont say i'll give up but...we'll see where it takes me, i have no doubts tho on set b/c i'll play that people should know i'll go from Michael Jackson Beat it, to Jay-z Can i get a, to Eiffel's Im blue, smashmouth's Allstar...thats how i see it being done touching all platforms, b/c we all know if it's done decent those clones on pills will dance to anything

Just a FYI. 9th Wonder does all his beats on Fruity Loops and he is one of the most saught after producers in hip-hop.

Need proof you can do amazing things on Fruity Loops check out any Little Brother album before "Getback".
