I for one never listen to AM/FM radios because like gehz said, it's the same top 5 songs on repeat, with 15 min of commercials in between every other song.
I was doing the CD route for a few years, but I'm quite lazy and would end up listening to the same CD on loop for a good 30 times until I hate every single track on the CD and finally change it to a new one. I found that this was making me play out and hate the music I actually like.
I'll admit that the trance channel sirius/xm has isn't anywhere near great, and even then often repeats itself in tracks (no where near AM/FM), but at least now and then they put out new music. Besides that, there are close to 200 other stations I could always listen to.
To the person that posted that article about the price hike: what worries me is the fact of why they're doing it in the first place

This 400$ for life sounds a little strange after 2.5 years it pays it self off. I am sure the business people there knew this but there is always a catch. Make sure you read the fine print before finalizing i.e may have to buy upgrades and additional cost later on for any reason which will make your 400 chump change in the future.
Also, I think the Radio is great for the daily commute with the morning shows. There were times where I wanted to stay in my car a few extra minutes from driving to work to catch the end of an interview before PODcast became available :) |

Chapter 11 would actually HELP Sirius XM. People really need to realize Chapter 11 from a business aspect is good if you have the resolve to come out of it. |

The service is a waste, Sirius had better edm channels than XM. You pay for radio...and you still hear the same songs on repeat. They practically arrange a top 40 for every genre and just keep replaying.
Oh and get the real kicker, not only do you pay to hear the same songs 5-6 times a day (Do I even have to say how many times Deadmau5 - Move for me was on XM (probably a dozen times daily at least) this past summer?)....BUT YOU HEAR ING COMMERCIALS STILL.
WHAT THE IS THE POINT IN PAYING FOR SOMETHING TO GET THE SAME YOU GET ON AM RADIO. FOR S SAKE....
Absolute rip off. It's absolutely pointless you are like oh great this is cool, thye have tons of stations, playing popular music. Then you are like wait, this is the same over and over...then you're like wait did I just hear commercials, am I paying money to have commercials thrown at me? Am I retarded or what? |

Don't mislead people, the way your post is makes it seem like they have commercials on all the stations. The only ones I have ever heard commercials on are 21, 22, and the talk radio stations, but that ones a given as people need breaks, they can't just talk for 5 hours straight. Also, try to listen to more than a handful of stations, I have all my available presets on my radio used up, so thats 24 satellite stations, and I never find myself saying "theyre playing this again??" |

Well I did listen to a lot of talk radio. Comedy channels as well, well practically everything. My girlfriends varied music tastes and myself enjoying EDM.
You could hear a lot of great tunes on 82. But like I said there is some sort of playlist for every music station playing the hotter tunes of the moment on a regular basis daily. Like I said Deadmau5 - Move for Me. I could find that song playing on channel 81 and 82 at the exact same time for example.
I listen to anything in the 20's, even 47 and 48 from time to time. The 20's are riddled with commercials as well as the comedy channels.
I just think for the price you should get literally commercial free stuff. Some of the biggest "perks" back in the day were this is XM, ing unregulated radio with no commercials. It's not like you spend 8 minutes listening to commercials, but I bet you are listening up to 2 minutes at times.
The repetitive playlist on channels 82 and 81 is very disappointing if you happen to travel a lot. You can get ASOT and other shows right to your radio.
Best radio you can get? Sure, cost a pretty penny like an iphone? Yup. I can't afford another re-occuring bill. They have plans that allow you to get in for roughly $60 a year.
My biggest "problem" that is my fault. I drive multiple vehicles and it is rather annoying I cannot pickup my radio. I can buy portable radios that will go in home / car / whatever, but you just start banging the XM radio drum even more. I used to get the service for like $9.95, then $12.95, then we started to find some good deals like $77 a year, then $4.99 a month. But after using it for many years I just don't see it as a technology worth investing in to. If XM was built in to your car this pickup your radio idea isn't a possibility, unless you go aftermarket.
It's just a love / hate situation guys...I just wouldn't buy it and expect a whole lot. In fact heres the best way to try XM. Instead of buying all the hardware you can listen online for like $3.99 a month or something, or try it for 72 hours I think. You can listen to a good majority of the channels and you will probably be surprised.
XM almost creates a big driving hazard as well, because XM always is playing hit music, that you can find music you enjoy on probably 5-10 channels at any time, and you are like well what do I want to hear?
But don't buy this thinking you are escaping Nickelback, or some other over played top40 group. Your playlists are better than FM, but it is about justifying the cost of the equipment / subscription.
IP radio needs to happen, and happen now. End of FM / XM / AM radio, beginning of in car computing. |

lol at them, what a poor time to start trying to raise rates. my prediction - within 5 years satellite radio will be completely killed by internet radio. why should I pay them $15+ a month when I can get internet radio for free on any cell phone that can access the internet? hell, the $15+ that sirius xm costs pays for nearly half of the $30 a month data plan you need for those phones. oh and before you pony up for a "lifetime" subscription make sure you read the fine print. typically the subscription can only be transferred twice, so if by some miracle these guys are still in business 15 years from now you will be using a 10 year old radio to listen to their so you can keep your "lifetime" subscription. |
