Ok just FYI I wouldn't go buying any expensive external hardware like mics unless you buy a nice outboard pre amp or synths or anything that is going to be going through that AD/DA signal chain until you upgrade to something better. |

The round of golf with the coworker got cancelled due to some family health issues, so I may actually be able to go on sunday. I'm also getting my Jetta painted and I'm not sure which day I'll have to drop it off, but it's going to be in the shop for 3-5 days.
I got your facebook thing but I havent had time to look at that webpage yet. I'll check it out. |

I dont think mics are on the wishlist. Synths on the other hand, may come in handy pretty soon.
What do you recommend getting that's inexpensive yet reliable? name brand, I just want something that will get the job done and will continue holding me at #1 dj of the universe. |

Since you're on a budget, you shouldn't get anything bigger than this.

I'm serious about learning to produce, but I dont have the latest and greatest either. Its never about what you have, but how you use it to produce good music.
Like other said, you you a good pair of flat response studio monitors, you dont necessarily need to spend a load on Genelics. |

Yep you can go all software as long as you have good monitors. That is the most important part it is hard to get out a good song if you can't hear into the reverb tails and hear how your instruments are being panned in the stereo field etc...
You don't have to go with Gens but I'd at the very least go with ADAM A5s/A7s unless you want to upgrade again. Like I said ideally you should spend half your budget on monitors. My problem right now is that I can get something sounding great on my sound here at home, but it doesn't translate. Proper monitors will fix that for me. |

You should stick with software synths for quite a while. Like I said you won't hear much of a difference without spending 4grand on monitors and an audio interface, so save that money and stick with software. |
