my point was that not much is original |
I think you're missing the point. Even though the point hardly matters. Sean Deason gets paid every time Traffic shifts a copy or gets a radio play, and his name is in every vinyl sleeve. I don't give the slightest about Tiesto or Armin but that's a lot different from someone basically copying an act as closely as possible without giving any credit, even if he is copying a walking circus act.

OMG i forgot suburban train loll. It seems that it has been a long time... Yeah, thanks guys  |
I just gave Suburban Train a play for the first time in years, and I still think it's a great track. Tiesto has produced some utter down the years but Suburban Train is epic trance done right. I still listen to the Way Out West remix quite a lot, because it's even better in my opinion. WOW's mix, alongside Dark Train, was probably the track that turned me onto progressive. |

legally it is different, but in the end the motive was 'i want to do what he did'
that's my only point.
whether it is legally cleared or not, when one looks at how the sample is used, it's clear that it's not an original use of the sample, and so my goal was to dilute the OP's argument that there is a such thing as a copy cat at all, because there are so many shades of grey about what is 'original' or what is even 'moral' as far as artistry and originality go.
i don't know what you're trying to prove or argue against, i think we're all on the same side here. i never claimed tiesto was a criminal lol |

I'm just highlighting that the point being made is not just that Armin copied Tiesto. After all, the end of the video says that Armin should at least give Tiesto credit, which Tiesto did when he sampled Deason.

He means Oakey was hammering it and using it as a set closer long before Tiesto or Armin touched it. |

Wow. What's to debate? :stongue:
Traffic came out in 2003, and that Tiesto got the sample from Sean Deason has been discussed hundreds of times on this forum since. So yeah, old news, and pointing out the sample for the 234th time does not make you look clever. Sorry! |

maybe im deaf... but the music comparissons sound nothing alike. they picked two random breakdowns
and the other random comparissons are pretty trivial. tiesto dropped a curtain before his show and now armin is doing the same ...tiesto didnt pioneer any of those things |

Well then, I guess he just "educated" one of the "clueless people". Still doesn't change my point:

On topic: all of this hoopla regarding who copied who can ultimately be attributed to one thing: the formulaic and commercialized state of electronic music. The ultra-reverb breakdowns in Sunburn and Flight 643, the rock star arena-dj sets, catering to the mainstream with singer/songwriter features, plastering the DJ's face on the cover etc. etc. These aren't trademarks or innovations that Tiesto or AvB have exclusive rights to. They are well-established aspects of the overall formula that artists employ for maximum impact in the industry, be it on the dancefloor or on the market.
This shouldn't be a debate of who copied who. It should be a debate of the formula itself and what it does to these artists' intentions with their music. |

If this is true , Rock and hip hop music is the king of copying.
Espically rock. You dont need new sounds , just the usual bread and butter. |

ha, the "closing track" is an Oakenfold track (Rui Da Silva - Touch Me), in my opinion, and neither tiesto nor armin should be allowed to play it!
who am I kidding, let them play whatever, who cares? |
its cassandra fox - touch me [mike koglin vs jono grant remix] |
