federal taxes usually aren't complicated unless you are self employed or have rental income. i'm not sure how louisanna does their state taxes so i can't help you there but that does seem a bit ridiculous that you would owe that much.

i have one month of rental income. and it was $400 :(

but does that count? should my property manager give me some kind of weird form like a 1056 or whatever its called?

i honestly thing i f'd something up for it to give me that weird dollar amount; i'm going to start over and try again at a later date.

Getting a much needed $1,500 (roughly) back. I'm unemployed right now, and these bills ain't payin' themselves. Got my W2 & 1098-T back, haven't filed yet though. Planning on doing it Tomorrow.

Getting a very large return this year.

If you bought a house after April 8th, be sure to think about the First Time Home Buyer credit.

that was a SWEET credit. i actually got the same tax refund in 2006 as i did in 2007. and i only worked HALF as much in 2006 cause of that first time home buyer , since i bought my house in december of 2006.

I was blown away when they announced the credit. We were actually supposed to close on our home on April 4th. It got pushed back a week by the sellers and we were upset at the time. Then when they announced the FTHB credit and the qualification date was April 8th or later, I hi-fived karma.
