I'm considering either a Korg Electribe EMX-1 or a Roland MC 909 for something to make dance/trance music on (as a hobby). what do you recommend? anything else better? my budget for this is upto £600.

I'm an electribe owner and love it. SO much fun, the quickest thing I've ever used to program loops.
Need to know more though:
Are you using a computer/DAW with this? If so what is the rest of your setup? |

thanks for the replies, I have Cubase LE and Ive had Cubase SX3 but i just cant get on with them thats why i want a hardware sequencer/groovebox.
I like the polyphony of the 909 and the sampler could be useful but i dont really have too much time for sampling. Id like a box that has built in sounds, can drive external midi devices and is easy to get to grips with.
Currently I've got an A6 Andromeda and a Korg Micro X (which is great for trance type sounds).
any recommendations much appreciated

| Get the akai mpc 1000! I dont think you can use the korg or the 909 as a external hardware midi sequencer! I have a roland d2 groove box, roland xv-5050 and a micro korg i want a mpc for hardware sequencer! |

Wrong. The electribes are excellent midi sequencers and you can send on different midi channels, as well as send NRPN's to any controller you want. The mpcs are good but I always found the sequencing had a steeper learning curve.
If you want something really fun, amazingly easy to use with decent sounds and an intuitive interface, then go for an electribe. |

I never said it did not have a external hardware midi sequencer, i said i did not THINK it has one! I don't care what that guy gets! If the guy wants a hardware midi sequencer he can't go wrong with a Akai mpc 1000 with the jj OS!
BWT is it true you cant play cords with the EMX-1? |

that is a concern i have about the electribe too, like is it mono for each synth part ?
about the mpc1000 ive had a quick look at those, but do they have inbuilt sounds or do u have to load in your own sounds? i assume u can buy trance sample CDs that just load straight in ?
how easy is the 909 ? it looks a complex beast.
thanks |

thanks | No the MPC has no sounds but add a Sound Module to it and load your own drums in the akai and you have a real nice groove setup! You can use your Korg micro x as the Sound Module! I think the Micro x is sweet! So much fun and has a triton sound engine! Sexy:) |

By the time you buy all that you've over a grand. Why bother to do the same thing as an electribe. Also, the triton engine while good, is soo dated now and is so pop (used on most of kylie's records a few years back).
No the electribe can't do chords but all the part aren't mono either.
