2 things:

1. I thought Steve was a brit?

2. I thought he had a family (kid/gf/wife?)

.... and I really have to question the patriotic duty, considering how the rest of the world (and even our current commander-in-chief) views this situation.

I think this war is totally wrong and all the soldiers that died or were wounded in this war were sent to fight and die wrong battle for all the wrong reasons. Sorry, I guess I'm not as patriotic as some here.

I think that you're a brave person and actually have something that I admire - a sense of civic duty that many (including I) lack. But at the same time that does not mean that if there ever was a cause worth fighting for I would not. Sadly, this conflict ain't it. Afganistan? Yes. Iraq? Noh noh noh.

Best wishes, be safe, stay out of harms way soldier.

Just so you know Steve, 'swearing' in doesn't mean screaming the F word in the face your sarg!

Trust Me mate, I gave all these points great consideration before taking the plunge. The economy is killing Me and I'm partly doing this to ride out the storm and give My family security until the economy is back on it's feet.

I'll get,
1, A nice enlistment bonus
2, The Army will pay My mortgage and give Me a separation allowance
3, An OK wage
4, Fast track to citizenship,
5, health insurance for the whole family
6, the best life insurance policy
7, to serve this country

For Me it aint all about fighting for the country. That aint My job. My job will be to rebuild the Iraqui/Afghan infrastructure. We'll be rebuilding roads and runways, clearing IED's, mines and fixing water supply lines. ALL whilst getting shot at.

Whether We think the war in Iraq is right or wrong it doesn't matter. We're there.

And Robdawg, you're wrong.

I raised My middle finger on My right hand and said " You America i'm English, where's the nearest pub"

Does that mean we have to make the trip to Iraq for Rhodekill: Iraqi edition?

WOW.

That's huge, Steven! Sounds like a smart decision. Make sure you give us your address so I can write you.

I'm moving to Berlin in 3 months so I've no idea when we'll see each other again but I hope we keep in touch. Hats off to you, dude. Be safe!

Yeah, it's just that whole "dying thing" that I have qualms with. Hope your loved ones never have to cash in on it (unless you get it for life - until you're at frail old age and it covers the cause of death such as "death of coitus" at which point I sure hope they pay up).
Uncle ED
the Army pays your Mortgage??
