at my second job (nursing home), theres an outbreak that just started. Because i didn't get a flu shot, they're basically punishing people by forcing us to get Tamiflu medication which is EXPENSIVE without reimbursement. Personally after a brief research, the medication looks like bull to me. Since its just a second job, and i can go a week or so without working. Am I legally allowed to refuse going to work until the outbreak is finished since i don't agree with their policy? thanks
edit - we have a union, and shouldn't the reimbursement be something they should fight for us? |

| Should of got your FREE flu shot when they were offered. Especially if you're working with the elderly. If you got the flu, and then they caught it from you, that could have been deadly. |

too late for should of's.
I've actually got the flu shot the last 5 years. but my health status throughout them has varied at the same level as before I started getting them. I've also had the flu 3 times in those 5 years, so i've had mixed feeling on the value of the shot other then the 'now' techical legal crap associated with it. |

Just being a hard ass.
I actually got the flu shot this year and I don't think I'm gonna get it again until I'm old. It was right before I started exams and I got so unbelievably sick the next 2 days after, I couldn't study at all and wanted to die. |

Seriously, if you're working with at risk populations you should be getting a flu shot...for THEIR protection, not just yours.
I'm actually surprised their policy isn't to simply take you off the schedule. Lots of places make you sign a waiver stating that you are aware of the risks of not getting a flu shot, and that you will be asked not to come to work if there's an outbreak.
Also, if your work is making it mandatory, you shouldn't have to pay for it. That's just retarded. |

The B strain is what's circulating right now, the doctor's committee didn't pick the best vaccine this year. The B strain in the vaccine isn’t a perfect match for the B virus that’s actually circulating but a shot will still give you some protection against influenza B and full protection against influenza A.
The strain going around accross the border in the US is actually Tamiflu resistant, and it's made the news there. |

1. Did you talk to your doctor? You may still be eligible for a free shot.
2. Aren't the flu shots only like $15?? |

especially around the chicken !
How fast does the flu shot take effect at preventing you from getting sick? If it's faster than Tamiflu wouldn't it make more sense to just to get the shot and less of a burden financially on the workers? |

| i dont think they can force you to take any sort of medication. If you are against it have your doctor write a note saying you cant take it. As for taking the flu shot, it doesnt work. I did it once and got sick the same amount of times as usual. tamiflu is a scam and im pretty sure the avian flu scare was designed specifically to sell stockpiles of the stuff. Considering Donald Rumsfeld owns a large share of the company i wouldnt be surprised. |
