Real Estate in your area taking a huge ass hit?

Back in 2004-06 here in chicago you couldnt touch a house on the north side for under $300-350k even if it was a fixer upper. Now i see houses in decent areas of the north side going for $150k & they arent selling either. Absolutly crazy. In the town i live in a couple years ago a shack surrounded by mexicans still went for $250k. Now theres 4 houses forclosed and under $110k & a handful of other nice places under $200k. Its crazy cause home prices were holding kinda strong over here up until about 4-5 months ago.

So how bad has real estate taken a hit near you.?

it fell a bit in shreveport - i wasn't able to sell my house...woulda been about $5k upside down on the mortgage.

but that's ok - because i'm renting it out; and am still getting more equity and reducing principle....so years down the road when i go to sell; it'll work out in the long run moreso anyway.

plus i still have my mineral rights ;)

It's nice to see houses coming back down to more realistic values.

Maybe that is the case in and around the city, but the suburbs (more specifically, the western, I don't know about the rest of Chicagoland), have been hit hard since '06.

We sold our 3 story Victorian built-in-1900 for $900,000...when originally, in '02, the house was worth a little over 2 mil (thanks to crazy development of our downtown area, in which we lived only 2 blocks from). This is in Naperville mind you, but that's still a little crazy.

Don't take this as rich-man talk...the house was bought for $250,000 in '85...my family has never had a lot of money.
