The descriptions on Yelp sound like Spin is SD's version of Circus Disco in LA, which has no dress code and allows lights. Does that sound about right?

The above post is pretty much spot on. However, I would advise with the recent change with Eventvibe co-sponsoring nights, the crowd can still be a bit... "downtown-ish." (Read a bit "seen-ster").
I wouldn't bring rope lights or poi or anything, the venue capacity is like 750+ I think if I recall correctly. Otherwise, the motto is pretty much no sport clothes but come as you are. |

Do some people use photon-like lights?
Tshirt, jeans, hat, tennis shoes are ok?
If that is the case, I may come down from OC in a few weeks. |

Its a come as you are venue - just no sports gear. Other than that shorts, flipflops, stylish hats, jeans, costumes, tuxedos and being dressed up are A-ok.
As for now that 'downtown-ish' comment, DISREGARD THAT. The crowd is completely mixed and has a fair balance of male/female - but the energy in the venue is FAR FROM "DOWNTOWN-ISH".
People are coming out to have fun, get loose and release all their inhibitions... not just to look cool
As for lights, glowsticks and flashy light things, they are very welcome, just dont hit anyone with them and you're good to go.
A. Ross.... Luke was ahead of his times with his light saber ;) |

Photon lights are little hand-held LED lights.

From everyone's responses, it sounds like they are fine. |

Tomas, most of the time I'd agree with you, but the clientele has morphed a bit since Eventvibe tagged on. It's something I've discussed with a lot of the people that are regulars man. I'm just noting that there is a bit of a stress since they just started there and their crowd sometimes doesn't get its not downtown and its a relaxed place yet.
Most of the time, you are right. I'm just pointing out that lately the vibes been a bit different. Maybe I'm used to the vibe of Giant crowds... its just feels like people are a bit more.... "pushy" lately, and that's something I associate with the downtown vibe.
Yes, Photon lights are ok. I was talking about the glow sticks tied to lines that some people twirl or the poi balls that people twirl as well. I don't recommend you bring them just because of the general chance of hitting someone with them in the crowded venue. But regular LEDs or glow sticks are fine and awesome to bring. |
