I read a story (yeah, somewhere on the internet) of some science guy going on one of those things and passing out - I think he was even clinically dead for 20 seconds.
It looks hilarious from the side but when you're in the seat it's very SERIOUS BUSINESS. Your heart and body have to overcome the 5Gs to circulate blood to your organs / brain.

I've pulled some pretty strong G-forces in jet trainer aircraft during sustained turns and it isn't too bad...negative Gs though. Blah!
