wasn't it under investigation following a stabbing there years ago and only recently was found guilty of something relating to the case/investigation and closed as a result? or did it just close pending an outcome of the case or something...?
I thought that was why stargarden was dropped (but if it were going well, presumably it would have moved to another venue but hasn't so...hmm..) |

Party's over for wild Viper Room
AFTER months of bashings, brawls, shootings, licence breaches and the arrest of a co-owner on cocaine charges, the notorious Viper Room nightclub in South Yarra is being shut down for three months.
The Chapel Street venue — a "magnet for wannabe gangsters" according to police — is also the target of a violent stand-over man, who has extorted hundreds of thousands of dollars and assaulted the club's former licensee.
A deal negotiated by Prahran police is expected to be approved this month by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, which will force the infamous dance club to close its doors. If it reopens, Viper Room's trading hours will be cut to 3am.
After a number of violent incidents, the club's owners now face threats from a former professional boxer and security guard.
According to Viper Room sources, the former Australian champion has terrorised club directors and management over the past six months with demands of about $200,000. "They fear for their lives, and for good reason. This guy is frightening. He doesn't care about anyone, including the cops," a source said.
Several payments have already been made to the former boxing champion, who stormed into the club with an associate two weeks ago. A terrified employee called Prahran police as the stand-over man threatened a manager and demanded money.
A Prahran police spokesman confirmed that eight officers responded and escorted a man from the club about 4am on February 1. A police vehicle was also damaged by a second person, believed to be an associate of the ex-boxer.
"It's not for me to say why management asked us to remove the man. But the club has not made a formal complaint regarding being stood over," the spokesman said.
The ex-boxer is also believed to have bashed the Viper Room's co-owner and former licensee Peter Sakkas, who was admitted to hospital.
Mr Sakkas was arrested and charged with cocaine possession last year, after a random vehicle search by St Kilda police. He is a close associate of underworld figure Michael "Eyes" Pastras, who was shot twice in the buttock outside his Brunswick home last October. Purana detectives believe the shooting was linked to Melbourne's drug trade and have interviewed a former South Yarra nightclub owner in connection with the attack, but have not laid charges. Mr Pastras gave evidence at the murder trial of Mick Gatto, and earned the name "Eyes" after receiving a $25,000 pair of diamond-studded glasses from slain hitman Andrew Veniamin and jailed killer Carl Williams. |

| Amen to this. I strongly believe if the media hadn't put the spot light on the issues at Viper it would still be open. The local police are more to blame for all the crap that happened there as they allowed it to - and were paid off to look away at the right times. |

i wouldnt doubt that one bit!!!
cops n government may not even bother being around.... they do sweet FA, n when it comes to something serious, they either dont do anything, or do the wrong thing......
this is a global thing, not just for Australia but money is the root of everyones' drive when it comes to cops n governtment... for one example, we are all driving cars which use petrol because if oil is not needed any more, the governtments of the world loose out on a giant slab of money, its not bloody hard for us to be running our cars on water, its been done before and will be done again, but once the plans come up to the surface again, the oil companys buy the inventor out and hence keep bringing oil to us... makes my blood boil n hence why i have no faith in anyone in Government full stop, they are all megalomaniacs and thats all they will ALL ever be!!!
the world is doomed and has been screwed up for hundreds of years because of this!!! |
