First off. If you like it, then it's good! Sounds cheesy, and unuseful, I understand, but it's true. Peoples' tastes are SO incredibly subjective and diverse... The thoughts I have on what would 'improve' your song may not exactly be everyones cup of tea, let alone jive with your intention with this song. So... Ya know... Have faith, my brutha.

So on with my thoughts on the song. There's a lot going on that I like, but I felt blocked off from getting into it during most of it's duration. The nearest I can attribute it to would be incomplete groove. I want more backbeat, more things happening on the 8ths, like hihats. Right now, all the rhythmic emphasis happens on the 1-2-3-4 and nowhere in between for most of the song's duration. It's only much later when I really sense the snare & hats that I feel like I can start grooving to it. Sometimes, that's just fine, but in this case the kick is so heavy that it screams DANCE TUNE!, yet all the dance tune rhythmic elements weren't as present as I needed to git down. So in short, I didn't feel a strong enough groove was established.

Second, all the bass seemed to come from the kick. I felt like I could've gotten a lot from getting a bassline in the offbeat perhaps, and just eliminate the bass from the kick. But that'd be a pretty drastic change, and probably goes away from your original intention.

All that said, I like whats going on in there. I hope you choose to bring your melody part to the front when you go back to mix it. I like it.

Yes.

I like this tune but I really think it could use some finessing in a lot of places. If it were mine, I'd keep most of what was already there but work on making the changes all-the-more seamless. Some of the tweaks sounded like they were recorded as on-the-fly experimentation rather than something that had been rehearsed.

There were a couple of different parts that sounded like they were simple preset sounds not even tweaked to fit the specific song. At one point a hi-hat/ride cymbal popped up for a few measures and then disappeared, just as atypically, as it emerged. It also seemed like changes were taking place, sometimes, at odd timing intervals. A new part would just suddenly appear or get louder, somewhat randomly. Sometimes, the overall volume of the hi-hats would fluctuate without any real necessity (like to duck another part that was playing in its spectrum or to provide a rhythmic accent).

Once the song gets going, (just after 4:20) Things begin falling into more of a reasonable groove. It definitely reminds me of Josh Wink.

All said, it's a cool tune. Keep working on it. It has rockin' potential.
