--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Walk in to a club to see your favourite DJ playing and what equipment do you expect him (or her!) to be using?
Two CD decks and a mixer? Maybe three CD decks if they are feeling a little adventurous.
Step forward Italian technical master Giuseppe Ottaviani.
Performing one hundred percent LIVE at every gig he does, the 'Through Your Eyes' and 'No More Alone' producer surrounds himself with an abundance of midi controllers, synthesizers, laptops, live mixers and more alongside your standard DJ equipment as he entertains thousands of party goers at nightclubs and festivals around the globe.
A quick glance through Ottaviani's technical rider is enough to send any audio diehard into overdrive; the energetic Vandit man can perform on any number of different midi controllers including the Novation X-Station, M-Audio Oxigen, Edirol PCR-500, M-Audio Axiom and synthesizers including the Roland JP 8000, Access Virus-TI, Novation Supernova II and Clavia Nord Lead.
A full live show incorporating live edits, remixes, reworks, sound effects and phasing with every track melody performed live on keyboards as the crowds look on is a prime example of the new era of DJing/live performances that artists are inspiring to in an age when the sale of turntables and CD decks greatly out number those of guitars.
Ottaviani uses mixers ranging from industry standard Pioneer DJMs to live eight channel mono mixers and accompanying FX units.
And the former NU NRG member uses production and live performance software like Ableton Live to bring different elements of numerous tracks into his sets.
The final result is breathtaking live performances from one of the best trance producers in the world and the man labelled by Paul van Dyk as the "next big thing".
In 2006 Ottaviani produced one of the biggest tunes of the year, 'Through Your Eyes', which won support from every major trance DJ in the world and was a runaway success on Armin van Buuren's global radio show, A State Of Trance.
Since then Ottaviani has went on to become one of the most popular trance DJs and producers on the planet playing regularly for the biggest clubbing brands on both sides of the Atlantic and producing records with trance icon van Dyk including 'Far Away' and 'La Dolce Vita', which featured on the latter's artist album, In Between.

There is a cool vid of him at Transmission here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ySM3eB-jR0
I honestly don't get the point of counting off the number of synths he uses though...I mean if it's a good set it's a good set. |

That entire video... he doesnt really do anything to all those hundreds and thousands of synths.
I say most of it is for show. He plays CDs (or wav files or something) and chucks a few jingles over them now and again. |
