traktor skips and fidgets ALL THE TIME, it is an amazing program but i have never switched over from serato for exactly that reason. native instruments is notorious for making great sounding programs that are relatively unstable. serato never crashes or fidgets like that, though it doesn't sound as good and is definitely a less cool program. i think when you are headlining dj, crowds trust you enough to blame the laptop, but you don't always have that luxury as a local dj.

I recently switched to Traktor, having not used another program before, but rather from CD's and I have to agree with what you are saying. Though Traktor has never crashed live for me, it has made me frustrated at home when I'm messing around. Little random pops from time to time and I have learned what items can make it crash. For example searching for a track through an external HD can make it go bye bye. At least for me it does that.

I do really like it though. It does simplify and consolidate the time to burn and label cd's, but where I really think the benefits come into play are the things that you can do on the fly and being (or attempting rather) creative with effects, cue points, loops and other things that I feel expand on the possibilities of just general programming and mixing. It has made DJing much more fun for me personally

As long as your laptop has at least 2gb of ram (that's a bit much I know) you shouldn't have any issues. Also, I know that Traktor + Tiger OS causes issues.

the music skipped very obviously at least once last night while he was playing at harlot. other than that it was a great party. dubfire went to play at some loft party afterwards, but i was done for the night.
