lol I play everything man.. I'm just sick of having to say it. I mean my damn moto is 'Let The Genres Blur' lol... but yeah.. I'm pinholed forever as a trance DJ I guess :). YES, I do play a lot of progressive house and some progressive trance. BUT I also play some minimal, tech house, electro and all the in between stuff! but to each there own, makes sense.. you gotta like what you like and I like EVERYTHING, except Hard style.. :).. and the cry me a river comment was mainly directed at Carlos. I forgot that me posting this flier is bragging.. damn me for not remembering!
What are you mainly into, if you don't mind me asking? Maybe I've got a mix that you might like and if you're up to listening to it, I'll send it over! :) |

I was at a friends house recently (MAYBE 2 weeks ago, or less) and they put on a CD and I was REALLY ing diggin' it man. and I said 'who the hell is this? the track selection is great' and they said 'Jesse Brede'.. I was like YEAH, and made them burn me a copy ;) |

nice. That's the only reason I do these mixes.
I totally feel you on being pigeonholed.
I first got into electronic music in 98. Later, Jo Jo gave me a 3 disc set of Chris Fortier in Mexico and it literally changed my life. I was amazed at the progression, technical skills, transitions and the journey he took me on. I spent the next 3 or 4 years trying to do that, but I eventually realized I'm not him and he's not me and I got my own soul and A.D.D attitude. I've never been able to focus in on a genre and take it to an extreme level. I'm more of a try this and that and do it all kind of guy. I love to change up the beats, tempo and style, keep it interesting at the risk of being silly. I do photography, web design, promotions, productions, lighting, sound, events, and djing. I'll probably never break out and be a top notch at any of those but I ing love to taste and try everything. I enjoy learning as much as I can about something in a short amount of time and then moving on to the next thing and then sometimes going back and trying it all over again.
I started to get pigeon holed as a progressive or tech dj and everytime I would go to play I didn't feel like I was being honest with myself or the crowd. Not that it was ever some huge gig but the point is, if you aren't having fun and loving what you play, why would anyone else?
Man, I'm on a rant today, need to stop. |

haha w0rd.. rant away, I'm enjoying it. it's always nice to find someone who feels the same way. I'll admit it, when I hear people speak of your style I always hear 'tech house dj'.. so yeah. WELL I'm a "TRANCE DJ!" lol. I havent' played full on 'trance' in like 2 or 3 years haha. I play more progressive house / tech house and progressive trance than anything.. YES I love melodies.. i can't help it :( lol |

| Yeah, I played the tech and prog stuff because I do enjoy it and I was opening up for people like Sasha, Wink, Zabiela, etc.. and I didn't want to go off the reservation. So I guess that's what people hear and its not bad, its just fun to break out and do something different. YODDLE a bit on the mic like Toddy B or maybe wear a rubber suit and bondage gear like KEOKI. |

EXACTLY! that is what I'm saying.. I play based on who I'm opening for. If I headline, I play pretty techy, tech trance/tech progressive.. PARTY music.. When i open for a big dj, people need to understand I'm playing OPENING music lol. For instance, for Deadmau5 I'll probably play a lot of minimal and tech, because he's gonna open with Tech/Minimal and work into his electro/trance.
Also, if it's any consolation, you play tech & prog REALLY well :)
I didn't know you did all the stuff you do, that's pretty damn cool. I wish I knew more about design and such, I just don't feel like I have the time to learn it. I produce, dj, run the record label, promote and throw my own events.. I love all of it, and I feel like to 'make it' in this industry, you have to be able to do it all! of course, my 'version' of 'making it' is "Doing what you enjoy doing and being able to get by." maybe u can show me how to do some web design sometime? haha. I haven't seen you in a whole minute actually....
PS! We hijacked this thread lol |

http://www.blastro.com is my day job. I do the back end php and database programming and architecture along with javascript/AJAX stuff to make the site usable. I do some CSS and HTML but leave that to my design guy who is way faster. I'm happy to show you anything you want to learn.
God I'm glad its Friday. |
