Cant get mix right

I have a couple of sidechained things gouing on in the below sample. I like the sidey effect but when its siechained how i like it its too low in the mix and upping the gain on sidecomp doesn't help. So I split the melody off down a seperate side chain track of its own and used a brickwall limiter and relaxed the side chain setting a little this makes it stick out to much. Im posting 2 samples on fully sided and stuff which i like but has problems mentioned above an one where the leads are clearer but mix seems to loose energy. I want somewhere between i think can anyone help samples below

http://www.sendspace.com/file/04t5up - First mix

http://www.sendspace.com/file/tcv0qr second more prominent mix

Thanks

Try changing the audio hit or midi hit you are using to trigger the sidechain.

I've found if I need a sidechain to be sharper I use a hat to trigger it, if I want a fatter effect then I use a reasonable bass drum.

Another option may be to keep the sidechained riff sounding right but low in the mix then run the sidechained riff into another compressor / limiter on a send channel to tweak the volume a bit.

Just my 2p's worth, I'm not the most experienced in it.

Was humming the track to and from the store just now.

Anyways, i think u can ditch this bassline and make a different one.. could maybe help. But i got to say it doesnt sound too bad really. almost there.

The sign of a good hook if people can humm it after hearing the tune. :)

TBH mate the track is at development stage and nothing is concrete yet literally just trying to get it all gelling nicely at the moment I may well change the bassline. Glad u like the melody
