First piece of hardware!

I am getting my first piece of hardware for my birthday, a JP8080 on the weekend.

My question is regarding connectivity, I am using FL Studio, and an M-Audio 2496 PCI card. What cables do I need and how do they connect please, so that I can send midi from fruity to playback patches on the JP.

Also are there settings on the JP that I need to be aware of?

Cheers

it's simple u need 2 MIDI cable (for send and recive data from and toward your machine) and an audio cable to send audio data in your DAW (you have to connect it in a audio input on your m-audio)

The M-Audio card has RCA connectors so you will need two unbalanced TRS 1/4" to RCA cables.

JP was my first hardware synth too :)

The 8080 has a handy Keyboard IN input, so you can easily plug a MIDI keyboard into it.

FL studio has really ty hardware support (unless this has recently been fixed). From what I know, you'll be able to record the .WAV files and play the gear via MIDI, but FL doesn't support any sort of latency correction or direct monitoring. So you'll have to record all of the sounds from your JP, rather than listen to them live, with FX, synced to the rest of the track.

+1

If it were me, I'd get a different DAW before the JP.

Was still like this when I had FL 8...switched to Logic after getting the Virus.

Adding to what I said, once you record to .wav, you can do whatever you want with it, add fx, chop it, etc, and it will sync with the rest of your track.

my first synth was also the JP8080 and while i loved the sounds it could make i emidiately felt like it was from a diferent millenium (which it is). it was very uhm... what to say, clumsy??? to program. not as in dificult but just not intuitive lol. i hated it. then i got myself a clavia which was much better! then i got a virus which was even worse than the JP. then i got a Waldorf which was like even worse than that again hahahaha. so i sold everything and got myself a few grooveboxes from korg which was supereasy and fun to use but sounded like crap. so i sold them too. then im back where i started using Reason hahaha. planning on moving to Logic while i wait for something more intuitive to come on the hardware side, those things must be made by aliens. To my own protection im a VERY unpatient dude so it will probably work nicely out for most you. good luck on wasting your time :)

I also have a Behringer Xenyx FX1204 mixer, would it be best to plug the audio out from the JP8080 into this rather than my M-Audio?

Itīs best to avoid mixers, whenever possible. They will just degrade the sound. Especially the behringers
and other mixers in itīs price range. Though it may be impossible to hear any difference, in the end of the day.
Mike Shiver runs his synths through a cheap behringer mixer. I canīt say his sound is crap. :D

I am having problems getting FL studio to "control" my JP. I am using a midi out and I just can't get the JP to respond. I have plugged my controller keyboard into the KBD IN midi input and I have 2 midi cables running from and to my breakout box of my M-Audio 2496 PCI card and in the midi in/out respectively. but still no playback of the midi notes with the patch on the JP.

Any ideas?
