Well i am a perfect example on why diets are not stupid.
About 3-4 years ago i was pushing 280. I then started my "diet" and supplements. A year and a half later i was at 220. Granted i did a lot of exercise also, but i kept my SUPER strict diet at 100% and didn't break it the whole time. And i say diet because to me that's what it is. Cutting all processed foods, all Mexican food (my grandma hates me right now), all junk food. I am pretty much just living off of water, oatmeal, whole grain bread, lean turkey cuts, all the veggies, some fruits, all kinds of seafood, lean chicken cuts, power bars, tuna, tuna and more tuna.
To me it has to be a dramatic life change or it just wont work. I have to pretty much do everything back wards.
I am at around 240-250 right now. I bounced back up while being unemployed and not really "caring" about stuff. As soon as i got laid off i lost my exercise routine and then slowly my eating habits went to . I indulged the last year and now i am paying for it... |
Wowwww, your story/method is very close to mine. I was at 304lb when I initially started....I just cut out fast food for a few months and drop 20lb. Then I pretty much ate similar stuff you did, minus the seafood (cuase I don't like it). Didn't do much tuna either (though my old roommate, who was on the same plan, did), cause I only like tuna with tons of mayo and onions ;P
Basically, we followed the www.bodyforlife.com plan, but I still kept away from red meats quite a bit.
A part of the plan also says to have one free day a week where you can have anyhting you want (which actually helps your metabolism/fat burning.)
We both started in Sept 2002 and by May 2003 (8 months), I had gotten down to a healthy 220-225 (I say healthy cause I got down to 200.5 by starving myself for a few weeks before coming down to LA for E3 that year....it wasn't a good idea in the end) and my roomate went from 385 down to 238 in that same time (yeap, abotu 140lb in 8 motnths!).
After that May I largely stopped the plan and just ate sensible food. If I ever felt I was adding back on, I'd just go back on the plan for a few weeks and be fine. I did this until 2006 or so when I gained about 15-20lb and have kept that one pretty much until recently....when I got laid off and then many other events happened causing which just made me eat crap and have gained 15-20lb since the beginning of the year. I actually lost most of it by going back on the plan in May-June, but that fell apart after a month or so and I'm back to where I was.
That said, I plan on going on the plan. It just takes a lot of work and it's not even worth trying unless the mindset is right and it just isn't at this moment. |

Yeah man i feel ya, for me trying to be fit is going to be a long life time battle. I was cursed with slow metabolism so i have to deal with it the rest of my life. I knew it was going to be haunting me for a while since i was in third grade and everyone thought "hey shouldn't you be with the 5th graders?"
It was only until the last few years that i started eating healthy exercising and just trying to be fit. Prior to that i didn't really care or bother too. But i checked out that bodyforlife site i am going to keep checking on it to get more and more tips.
But man, its pretty hard to undo almost a life time of eating a lot of food..... |

I just stopped here at starbucks before going out tonight, the guy at the register said he couldn't accept the coupon. My friend got mad and she put up a fit and the guy finally complied.
I am going to try another starbucks, hopefully they won't reject it... |
