Since I first heard him somewhere in the late summer of 1784, the decline has been massive. Infact, everytime I hear him open his yap I like him a bit less.

But some of his works are brilliant by all standards, that is undeniable.

How old are you? If you don't mind me asking.

OT: Not very familiar with his work, however what I have heard it was all good.

His DJ sets are that terrible eh?

I'm more than willing to bet that most people would say that he had the best set at the festival I saw him at. Nearly everyone I spoke to about that night were blown away about what he dropped that night. Then again, nobody was really expecting anything from the tiny bald man...

So either:

1: Los Angeles has ty DJ sets all the time, and nobody realizes it

or

2: The tiny bald man actually gave something worth remembering that night.

I've seen plenty of great sets in Los Angeles... Carl Cox, Donald Glaude, Christopher Lawrence, Sasha & Digweed for four hours, Steve Lawler, etc... So I'm not sure what to think about people are saying here. But his downtempo stuff is absolutely ace!

My idea of a good DJ set is completely different than yours.

Mine is simple: it gets the crowd moving & keeps it that way until the set is over.

Care to elaborate on yours?

How may people here have actually gone to see him DJ? This thread smells of anecdotal evidence.

He's not bad at all, he gives the crowd what it wants to hear. I've enjoyed his shows more than Tiesto, that's for sure. (but that's probably apples to oranges)

I saw him in Detroit last year for DEMF and once in LA at a small party.

I was always a tremendous fan of Moby. His productions have all been fantastic, and I'll agree with Lebezniatnikov in regards to the quality of his productions over the recent years. However, his DJ'ing has always lacked. Have any of you ever heard his 1994 Essential Mix? It's got a great track selection in terms of diversity, yet the mixing is absolutely Godawful and downright disgusting.

In addition, I used to think that Moby had some very, very positive insight and opinions regarding the music industry and pop scene. However, he's just as big of a douche as the rest of them. Why? Well sit down, kids, I've a story to tell...

In 2005 he stopped through a bookstore in Seattle to promote his new book and the newly-released Hotel. He did a whole speech about the album and the book, and then proceeded to take questions from the crowd. Being the Moby and Tiesto fanboy that I was, I raised my hand. He called on me and I asked, "In the early nineties, you DJ'd significantly more often than you do now. How has the scene changed, and what do you think about other DJs selling-out 20,000-capacity stadiums and DJ for eight hours?" Take that, Tiesto.

His answer? "Well, to be honest, I don't know how those DJs can do it. Most of the tracks they play aren't theirs, but they stand up with their arms posed and let the crowd cheer as though they're the ones making the music. I could never take credit for something that wasn't mine like they do, I'd just feel really awkward."

Then, I see videos of him online pulling a Jesus pose to Underworld's NUXX last year. him. him hard.
