It is all pretty daunting but I plan to try and handle much of the paper work myself...

I never thought I would be an immigrant.. it feels weird to wrap my head around. lol

Let me know how that goes, I want to move to warmer weather, seriously... I grew up in VT for 1/2 my childhood, but would rather live in Arizona.

I have a bit of an advantage since it will come with marriage.

Funky - I think most of the paper work is similar. Bobby has to fill out some forms and once they get approved then I have to apply for a visa. We need to interview and all that jazz...

Once we get married in the US I will have to apply to switch my status from a visitor to a permanent resident. Time and patience is the biggest thing and cost. Each form and step is about $500 - $1000.

ouch!
I paid $550 (twice) for the applications, and $490 (once) for the right of permanent residence fee.. my interview was waived since I'm already inside the country
medical was expensive too - $180 in total and couldn't put it through my benefits at work and it's not covered by OHIP..

have a lot of patience in stock :) as far as I hear, immigration under spousal class can be time consuming, be prepared to reveal your personal correspondence with your bf/fiance, etc

best of luck :)

lol!! :) I'm not loaded, well not really :) my parents just saved up enough over years to send me here

lawyers just suck the money out of you! you hardly need them - I mean, you avoid all the paperwork, but when you do it all yourself, you know where and when things are getting send and all

tbh, I was much more excited when I sent my initial application :) I think the excitement peaked when I received the request for the medical :D I was jumping up and down like Tigr from Winnie the Pooh :)

haha that's cute :)
Shortie, your case was too easy for these imigration morons whereas my families case is entirely different from yours & quite complicated. It's complicated because of wrong decision's made by them and now nobody wants to shine on the podium for these accousations. I will not elaborate.

P.S. She_Fitz, these morons have upgraded their "manuals" :haha: If you know that your doing something effy then just be positive in the actions that you make. Interviews are were most people make mistakes therefore are prohibit of the status they acquire. Good luck!

heeeeey I'm not that short ;)

yeah family cases are much more complex.. the more dependents you have, the more there is a possibility of processing errors/problems

whatever the decision, you should be able to petition, no?

got my new SIN today - this one is forever! :D
