Guv was DEAD and I in loved it!!!!:eyespop: J00f killed it once again and holy did he play HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD.This was probably one of the hardest sets Ive heard from him in a long time.Dark dark psy for the most part.
The sound system sounded much better then usual and much better clearity(dpending on where you were standing).
We need to book these guys more often and it doesnt nececerly have to be at the Guv.:p |

What a great set by CL, probably the best I have ever heard from him.
Didnt go overboard on the psy. It just wouldnt have made sense with what he was doing.
He maintained a very good, more energetic flow, and when he played the more club anthem type tunes he made some great choices.
Radio crash made a lot of people in there happy.
I personally liked
Vicky devine - facing the truth (dan powers mix)
and
dan powers - eternal call
Well done, great set.
No not packed, but boy did the douchebags in there make up for that.
My apologies on not being able to comment on the j00f set, the crowd killed me. Standing in that middle, dealing with terrible sketchers who were insanely pushy. Messed up horndogs ATTACKING the girls we were with. They didnt get a moment's peace, thought we were in a hip hop club.
Even on walks to the washroom there were constant losers who were pushy and annoying.
Was significantly worse than a regular guv night, especially on a per person basis.
Still, great set from CL, very impressed! Heard less than 2 min of j00f unfortuneately, would have liked to hear the entire set. |

Nice, he played "Vibrasphere - In Control". Loved that. Saw Vibrasphere play this at the big bop (or whatever the smaller club inside it is called.
Was in Nyc otherwise I might have come. |

| Yes, In Control is one of Tribal Vision's best release of Vibrasphere. It was a pleasure having him play a set in Toronto last year. J00F really did a good job playing not one, but 2 Vibrasphere's tracks. Although yes, I must admit I was expecting more of a prog-psy set from him. Nonetheless, the Full On Psy tracks he dropped, were still quite rare to be played at the Guv. |

I dropped by it was a friend of a friends bday....yea one of thoses...
I could care less about CL and j00f.....although the 1hr of CL I did catch was surprisingly banging.....i missed radio clash thou.....if CL keeps that sort of style I would check him out again.....
The Drin....er....Cathouse was different......but it was the kind of tunage that could bring in some big business......
Nice being on Skybar for the first time this year, cant wait for the opening of it.....Freedom hopefully......
Gallery was great....im down for lower ceilings in the gallery to bring up the skech factor.....

Hadn't been able to get away from the northern country to hit up some live beats in quite some time. Given the travelling coming up (taking the Yorkie show on the road), I decided to hit up Guvvy.
Cam the Maxwell-Tasia was populating the Acid Lounge for the night, and John double-oh Fleming with Lawrence in the main room sure seemed like a night promising full of some hard heavy Psy Trance--and man, I'm GLAD I wasn't wrong. The gallery was populated by our favourite Toronto locals--with such a buffet of suculent sounds, I don't know what educated ear couldn't be satiated soundly.
The environment was awesome; enough people to provide a solid vibe while not crowding the floor too much.
There was a mardigras theme going on in the drink, so people were wearing trippy masks everywhere.
I planned on spending most of my time in the main room dancing it up to the hard and heavy big room beats, but I have to admit, I kept getting pulled back to Acid Lounge to the debauchery that Cam was throwing out.
Don't get me wrong, he certainly started out with "Cam's favourite electro hits" (2007 called, they want some of their tracks back!) but the crowd was digging it, so I understood. I bailed at that point for a while to check out the beloved gallery. Evan G was at the decks...he seemed to have some equipment failure just as I walked in as the gallery went silent amidst a track. He picked it up just fine and the crowd was digging it in there too. Ventilation was a problem (so many smokers in the tent area), so I couldn't stay long to sample his set. I planned to be back when Manzone & Strong hit the decks.
On the way out of gallery, I bumped into a friend who had the interesting opinion that true DJs, those with the true craft, are those that started and still can spin on Vinyl. Ah, the age-old argument of if you didn't start on the classics, then you're only half a DJ. While I recognize that vinyl may require a special level of concentration and tweaking to keep the beats and pitches going, more so than CDjs, and certainly more than laptops, I think people need to start realizing the creative freedom that modern spinning devices allow. At the end of the day it's about the DJ interacting with the crowd and producing a sound that makes them go off... I wouldn't want to start telling carpenters to go back to mallets, chisels and wooden pegs to be 'real' carpenters. This
argument/opinion is getting old, I think.
Heading back to the Acid Lounge I took in some J00F and the beats were heavy, dark and hammering--I loved it. Gotta dload a few sets like that; I also enjoyed the set that Shaya sent out on facebook prior to the event. Speaking of which, I heard a rumour floating around Guvvy that night that Shaya had something to do with John's double-oh moniker... anyone got the goods on that one? (glances at Shaya's signature).
Back in Acid Lounge Cam bitch-slapped me musically in the face with a hint of tribal... the crowd responded and Cam started into one of the SICest tribal sets I've heard in a while! I couldn't tear my ears away from the Acid Lounge sound system. Hour after hour, he pounded the floor with all sorts of heavy pounding beats, weaving a wicked tribal sound through the whole thing. Keeping ever mind-ful of the restraining order pending, I barely kept my distance as the vocals "Tribal...tribal...tribal..." echoed erily thorugh the beats over the Acid Lounge sound system.
Addy and Cam were loving it behind the decks, and Shaya even captured Cam on camera ("I gotta go pee."). I guess 7 hours on the decks will do that to you.
Christopher Lawrence, from the small parts I heard, was pleasing the crowd nicely as well.
One tribal track dropped, "Locomotive" by DJ Paulo. Nice!! I can't wait to hit up DJ Bliss's March 7th party..I think it's at Toiya? Toika? DJ Addy, D-Unity, Matt Gracie, and entire night of tribal. Yeah, I'm addicted.
A close second to the tribal was certainly the massive hard heavy hitting beats in the main room. I took breaks intermittantly to get sub-woofer-banged by the massive throwers by the washrooms while the crowds went off.
Yeah, there were certainly a few dinks in the crowd...I saw lots of kids getting thrown out for not acting as gentlemanly as they should.
Great seeing lots of TAs out having a fanstic time...great vibe, good tunes and lots of smiles.
p.s., who knew the Acid Lounge was so freakin' comfortable? Great sound, lots of seating area, and well ventilated. I'm a new fan of that room. I wish Cam would throw a set or something so I didn't look like such a ballwasher. frig. I will sabotage the decks next time. |
