Hey im scarcely beggining djing and mixing. Although I know the basics I just wanted to ask what software is good for a begginer when it comes to hooking up the pc to a djio/mixer and in the future some turntables?

Ive been toying around with virtual dj, but maybe there's some other program thats worth it.
i got big pants
ableton...excellent for beginners

I've never used Virtual DJ myself but I've heard it's pretty .

I have used Traktor though and I personally recommend it. Do you have a mixer already? If not, get a midi controller like the Vestax VCI-100. It's what I use. You can get a new one for $500 and it includes the LE version of Traktor 3.

Now, if you want to eventually hook up TTs, then your best bet would be a DVS like Traktor Scratch or Serato even though they are pricey. I've never used either of those, but many people in here use either of those and can elaborate. ;)

I cheked out the VCI-100, looks nice for as a start-up, Traktor is a little more complicated than virtual dj, but a lot better (i noticed after using it a bit)

How do you work the headphones for cue's and stuff?( VCI-100 ) it does'nt appear to have a plugin like most mixers.

It's not a mixer, it's a midi controller. That means it's only used to control the software, no sound comes in or out of it.

You will have to get an external sound card for that, like the M-Audio Fast Track Pro for example.

If your looking for a midi controller that acts as a sound card as well try the Numark Omni control or the Hercules RMX DJ console. Both work really well with Traktor even though the RMX was made for Virtual DJ.

They both are not expensive and are quite simple to use if your looking at starting up DJing. I'm using the RMX and it allows me to control a lot in Traktor such as cues, loops, effects...

thats probably the way to go... currently ive been using Traktor, but Ive heard a lot of good feedback from some friends for the Hercules RMX DJ... I shouldnt have a problem mixing with that hardware/software combination, right?

I've hadn't had any problems at all so far. Just download the proper .tsi file, load it up, and you should be good to go. The mapping for Traktor on the RMX is decent.
