“If you can’t dance to God Made ME Funky, you can’t dance.” - ChartAttack.com
Toronto based God Made ME Funky (GMMF) is a funky live ensemble, comprised of a diverse array of musicians ranging from a classically trained Jazz artist to street schooled Hip-Hop and R&B vocalists. With a common bond of moving crowds with their infectious energy, the band consists of Vocalists - Kaybe (Snow, Just Cool) and Lynzie Kent, Rapper - PHATT al (Len, Raggadeath), Keys - Danny Argyle, Bass - Cam Dougall (Graph Nobel, King Latifah), Guitar - Rich Grossman (Jimmy's Groove), Trumpet - Benji Perosin (Directions), Sax - Arthur Kerekes (Monkey), and Drums - Alan Witz (Funky Hi-Life, Millhouse), who all share the passion of bringing the “Nu-Funk” sound into the next millennium.
Formed in 1996, GMMF started out as an instrumental funk fusion experiment. As the bands popularity grew, vocalists were added to increase the range of songs the band could cover. Influences including Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Sly and the Family Stone, Michael Jackson, Jamiroquai, the Roots, Afrika Bambatta, and D'Angelo were remixed with a 'new school' sound, defining the bands unique style.
The band won the Toronto Independent Music Award for Best R&B Band, the first of many accolades and achievements, for their self-titled debut album released in 2005. In addition, they were named one of top performers at NXNE by ChartAttack.com that same year. Since 2005, their music has been chosen by the Parmelat Group (of Dairy Products) to be featured in their national "Pure Filter Milk" campaign and has been featured on the TMN hit show 'G-Spot'. Continuing their success, the band has shared the stage with such notable artists as Guru (GangStarr, Jazzmatazz), Afrika Bambatta, Julie McKnight, Bedouin Soundclash, and Divine Brown.
Their second album, ‘We Can All Be Free' featured guest spots from Michie Mee, Maestro, and Thrust; and featuring production by BEAT MERGERS Productions (King Latifah). The first single “Won More Time” feat. Thrust, hit 1 on CBC's R-30 radio charts, and 60 on the national CHR (Contemporary Hit Radio) charts. The song received heavy rotation on MuchVibe, and medium rotation on MuchMusic and Razer. The third single “Luv T'Day” was featured in the film ‘American Pie Presents: Beta House’. And has been honoured with a 2008 Juno nomination for R&B/ Soul Recording of the Year.
The band has further developed the NuFunk movement with the release of their third album ‘Enter The Beat‘ (2008). An eclectic mix of old school hip-hop with a new school twist; funk, rap, rock, and R&B come together to produce the band’s “NuFunk” genre. The first single, the album titled “Enter The Beat” , is currently being featured in the new Coors Light media campaign, while the latest video for the single "Bringin' It Back" was directed by MMVA nominated director Marc André Debruyne.

Souljazz Orchestra
http://www.souljazzorchestra.com
With its raw blaring horns, dusty vintage keyboards, and fierce earthquaking percussion, the Souljazz Orchestra is redefining modern groove music, creating a potent new blend of Funk, Soul, Jazz, Afrobeat, African and Latin styles.
The band was founded in 2002, when a group of young musicians, of mixed cultural origins, was united by its common allegiance to the grittier side of rare groove music. As time passed, others gravitated towards the burgeoning ensemble, until the collective reached its current six-piece strong formation.
Along the years, the members of the Souljazz Orchestra developed their signature sound by seamlessly connecting the dots between their various influences, from Fela Kuti to James Brown, from Mulatu Astatke to Pharoah Sanders, while always adding their personal touch to the mix. Their efforts have resulted in the rugged groove that now characterizes the Souljazz Orchestra: an innovative and modern sound, but with roots that run deep.
The Canadian collective has since had the honour of sharing the stage with the likes of Femi Kuti, Etta James, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. The multicultural group has played hundreds of concerts across North America and Europe, from Brooklyn to Budapest, from Montreal to Paris, from Toronto to London. Now, with more international dates in the works, the Souljazz Orchestra is set to bring its cataclysmic sound to the rest of the world.
The group released its latest album, Manifesto, in late 2008. Blending dirty funk and tropical jazz to the militant afrobeat of the previous release, Manifesto is already being hailed as a modern classic: "Top album of 2008" claims Kalcha of Vibrations Magazine, "Definitely a marquee album, " enthuses CHARTattack Magazine, "Easily one of the funkiest groups in the contemporary Afro Funk underground," says Dusty Groove.
Their previous album, Freedom No Go Die, featured the vocal stylings of legendary Rwandan/Burundian musician Mighty Popo, and was released in September of 2006, also to critical acclaim. Tracks from the album have been featured on a number of compilations and soundtracks, alongside such heavyweights as Amy Winehouse, Radiohead, Common, Quantic and K-os. To top it all off, the listeners of Gilles Peterson's BBC radio show voted the album's opening track, Mista President, as one of the top ten tracks of the year.

This event is a fundraiser and awareness event to draw attention towards:
1. 2009 marking the 10th year since the entry into force of the Mine Ban Treaty; and the need to continue pushing for action and support from governments in making the goals of the Mine Ban Treaty into a reality
2. The Convention on Cluster Munitions was newly born in December 2008; which will bring an end to the use of cluster bombs within our lifetime. We need to ensure that the Convention enters into force quickly by getting 30 states to ratify as soon as possible. Along th same lines, we need to get other states to sign and urge all states to start implementing the Convention to make a real difference on the ground.
About Mines Action Canada
http://www.minesactioncanada.org
Mines Action Canada itself is a coalition of NGOs that together form Canada's contribution and membership towards the International Campaign to Ban Landmines. Canada itself took the lead role in the adoption of the international Mine Ban Treaty in 1999, and MAC was at the helm of this. MAC works to eliminate the serious humanitarian, environmental and development consequences of landmines and other explosive remnants of war.
The human-made disaster caused by these weapons is solvable in our lifetime. We exist to advocate for alleviation of the impact of these weapons on the rights, dignity and well-being of civilian populations.
We do this by engaging the Canadian public; building our partners' capacity domestically and internationally; researching and monitoring the performance and compliance levels of disarmament and humanitarian laws, treaties and norms; and developing and disseminating resources.
MAC seeks to create an enabling environment to achieve its goals based upon the core values of peace, social justice, partnership, solidarity, cooperation, and innovation.
