Low Bit Rate Compression FX?

| bitcrushing would have a similar sound. alternatively you could just export the sound at a lower bitdepth then reimport it. |

| eh, bitcrucher sounds too mechanical and not really the way low bit compression sounds, the artifacts are different, and reimporting the sounds removes most of the useability. |

| I think you'd want a sample rate reduction effect rather than a bit reduction effect? There must be some out there, I know battery has one built in, I think ableton maybe has one as well? |

| Your best bet would be to export as 32kbit. |

ok, so you want it to sound like as if you exported it as a 32kbit mp3 file or similar? there are three components:
1. bit depth change (dithering)
2. sample rate change (dithering)
3. psychoacoustic processing (eg. the filtering in MP3)
to emulate this, your best bet is to use a dithering plugin and filter out high frequencies. |

| think i know what effect ur looking for it can be heard on Daft Punk - Robot Rock in the intro break 21-23sec. would love to know for sure myself. |

Is there aplace i can read up on this dithering stuff?
The main artifact I want is when you compress it at a low rate, the quality goes down a bit and you get this bubbling sound. But I obviously don't want the quality to go down for everything. |
