Alright so I listened twice now and I figure it's about time to give my impressions. I suppose I'll start with the brief listening notes I made:

Seems like it's gonna stay louder. Guess you forgot to raise the master volume levels.
You should have kept them as they were at the beginning though.
Mix-in at around 34:20 was brilliant, really.
Great mix into the Mr. Jones track. Actually happens to be the only track here that I have/know.
Very nice mix out of this one too!

Basically, I really liked the progression in this mix. After mixing for about a year now, it seems to me that the most difficult part about creating a mix is making one that actually instills you with the feeling that you are going somewhere, and that by the time your at the end, you're at a very far place from where you started off.
Your mix captured that extremely well, in fact it did this better than anything else. The way you ordered the tracks, it's as if each one raises the level a little bit, and the end result is a multi-step effect, where with each passing song the mix moves further and further along. I mean it's not too difficult to string songs together. But to string them together while creating such a sense of depth and progress, that is the mark of a good set, one that Grooves bears.
The mixing, for the most part, was solid. There were a few slightly awkward moments, to be honest, where the levels didn't quite match (mentioned in the notes) and the beats were ever so slightly off. But it was really nothing major, nitpicking more than anything, and it did not subtract from the flow of the mix, surprisingly.
I guess there's no point to really comment on the music. I really like it, but at the same time I can't listen to too much of it because it does start to sound a little samey after a while. I didn't get bored with this mix though, it kept things interesting all the way through. For the last track, what can I say, I didn't dislike it and I appreciate these little creative additions at the beginning/end of a mix, so I thought it was cool.
Am I forgetting something? I hope not. Obviously I noticed your evolving music tastes, with you now getting more into the deep house stuff. I'll tell you though, I was really into it about a year and a half ago but I kinda got bored, because while I was wowed by the lushness and the cleanliness of the sounds at first, stuff did start to sound a little similar to other stuff, and overall I was feeling like things were a little cheesy. Perhaps things are evolving and you will not experience the same feelings down the road. Either way, I look forward to seeing where your musical jouney takes you! |

You're right about the levels, from a technical point of view I find that's one of the hardest parts for me to get right whenever I'm presented with the odd track that is noticeably louder or quieter than the rest. To be honest here, I didn't notice the obvious difference in levels on that transition until I listened to the mix the first time after I recorded it. :( I wish I had caught it when I was mixing because I would have started all over again. I was only 9 minutes into the mix, lol.
Also, thanks for the nice comments regarding the programming and flow. That is definitely something I strive to do every time and it feels very good to know that it comes out right. :gsmile:

Great stuff Oscar, you're improving ever mix you put out and it's really obvious. Flow on this was really well done, and although I'm not the biggest fan of deep house, this kept my interest throughout.
Your blending is getting very good. There were a couple transitions where stuff wasn't exactly perfect, but it was never detracting from anything. The transitions at the 32 minute mark was really well done I thought.
I think you've got a lot of potential man, keep at it. :) |

Thanks a lot mate, I guess that the most important thing that I'm taking out of this mix is that I'm surely headed on the right track and there's still work for me to do so I keep heading that way. :)

I downloaded this right when you put it up but am a bit late with the comments... anyways, I think you once again did a great job!
Mixing shows a big improvement from Tones or Dark Light, you pick great points in the tracks to transition out of, and you let the mix flow, not abruptly cut out. Set programming is good, each track seems to draw on what came before it, adding a bit more energy and melody... there's a great peak/effective conclusion (apart from 'Stay', which I will get to in a minute).
The only complaints I have with it are, like others said, on occasion the volume levels (especially on the transition from 'Pantek 400' to 'Lost Friends') were a bit off. And, after you started to build and build towards a proggier and more uplifting finish, I felt the more soulful and more low-key 'Stay' was out of place.
Track wise, the highlights for me are the Inner City-reminiscent song @ around 35 min, and of course 'My Kicks', and the Milton Jackson mix of 'Lassur'... Absolutely in love with Milton Jackson's stuff ATM. |

Thanks dude, after 9 months of practicing I've noticed that I'm actually finding my own 'mixing style', which is pretty cool :p
The deal with 'Stay' was that I had originally planned to do a longer set (2 hours) that was going to continue on a funkier vibe but decided against it at the last minute. :p
The track @ 35 min is 'Tim Jirgenson & Carlos Zarate - A Night in Chicago' ;)

| I thought this mix was alright but overall the tracks just weren't quite to my taste - a lot of them were nice but not amazing or that catchy. Perhaps on second listen I'd appreciate them more. I thought that the mixing was quite good though, pretty smooth throughout and no real clashes or anything. |
