Using "trance" synths & sounds in non-EDM music

So, I'm posting this song over here rather than the Songs forum because I want to get your thoughts on people's (mis)perceptions of synths. I am just finishing up production on a song written by Alicya Angel and, as I look back on the synths and samples that I used, it looks like a recipe for a slamming trance song. Here's what I used:

Access Virus Polar TI - layered arps and pad
Gladiator 2 - bass
Nexus2 - hihats, shakers
Stylus RMX - percussion
Vengeance House one-shots - kick, snare, crashes

Now, give the song, titled "Need You There" a listen:

http://www.myspace.com/cryophonikmusic [192kbps] - 2nd song in player

or

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/def...m?bandID=780921 [128kbps] - 1st song

What do you think? Does this help dispel the myth that certain synths and samples are usable only in certain "trance" or EDM genres? Or, do you think that by using these synths, I've imparted a noticeable trance influence on a song that is clearly not trance? Anybody else using their "trance" synths/sounds in non-trance songs?

Yep, do it all the time. Sylenth1 gets a lot of use in my tracks, be it prog house, tech house, or trance. Just depends on what I am going for.
G-Con
Haven't listened to your samples but I own a virus TI. I use it for nearly every sound in all my tracks apart from drums and some FX.

I haven't made a trance tune in ages. And since owning it, I have NEVER made/used a supersaw! :D

I guess I need to clarify a bit. When I say "trance" in quotation marks, I'm referring more the layman's interpretation of trance. You know the people I'm talking about - they refer to any sort of EDM or dance music as "trance" or "techno" and have no idea what prog house or tech house is. They're also the same majority who think that a Virus or Sylenth1 has no use outside of of "trance" or "techno." So, what I'm really getting at here is using "trance" synths outside of EDM. Take a listen to the song and you'll see what I mean. ;)

didn't know there are trance synths and sounds..

it's about the composition/production and not that much about the tools.

That's pretty much my point, but a large contingency of musicians who don't produce EDM don't see it that way. Spend 15 minutes over at KVR and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Nightshift
the track "so far away from me" i like it.

i kinda wanna remix it.

No I see what you mean. I did listen to the track and it is very non-EDM. However, I agree with you. I have always thought of my synths a non-genre specific. I mean when I go through the presets on a new Software Instrument or Hardware Synth, I'm always thinking of how something could be used outside of EDM.
Numb
Personally I don't make dance music, yet I use synths commonly used in dance music for everything. Both hardware and software.

PlasticSoul
I think some synths are more trance oriented because the presets/soundsets available.
In other way, Bigtone is one sound designer that is not mainly trance oriented, so it make synths like vanguard useful till for ambient.

I can tell you now, I know many many film composers that use what you refer to as trance synths. There's a ridiculous number of Hollywood film that use EDM synths.

Then on to hip hop...listen to anything recently by lil wayne or timbaland and you'll hear presets you recognize......
