Wanted to say hello!

Hey All,

So, basically, I wanted to say Hi to everybody, and that I'm new to the forum.

Recently I've felt enlightened and encouraged by stumbling upon this site. I've been in Atlanta for a little over a year and half, but haven't really had a chance to connect with any of the edm scene.

Anyway, I'm super excited to have found a place where I can check in on current events!
I wanted to mention that I am going to the Digweed show and very much looking forward to it.

I hope this doesn't sound too naive, but I have never really been to a "proper" club. I used to attend all night "parties" years ago before they stopped having them. Is the atmosphere of the Opera as rough (pretentious) an environment as I gather it is, from reading reviews off the web? And, I was wondering what time would be suggested to show up for the show, if it "starts" at 10pm? Thanks in advance for any info!

Best,

Matt

Welcome.... :)

Welcome to TA, yo!

Personally, I'm gonna' try to be at Opera by 10pm on Digweed night. Ian James is opening, and he never disappoints. I remember a Liquified local night at wetbar where he actually headlined and destroyed! :)

Opera can be like that but for "events" the staff puts up with more, or less as in dress code, especially when it's on a Thursday. But as a good rule of thumb, shoes, not sneaks, jeans will work but not the jeans you cut the lawn in, a nice button up and your golden for the atl scene. Anything less and your inviting a chance meeting with senior lame door guy. As for time of arrival, the joint sometimes has a long line for a big event. John won't go on until say 12 to 12:30 so that's your call. If the weather is bad or you are running late and don't mind a possible line wait then... But definitely get your ticket, opera jacks it up night of.

Just for your nubie scene info, there is another forum that tends to get a lil more traffic from the local dj's promoting there events: lunar magazine dot com and the general forum to be exact. Some times the mods will post the events on the calendar but it's not very consistent. On that page you will find some place with a live dj spinning edm almost every night!

cheers

I pretty much always show up between 11-11:30

I love listening to the opening DJs and hearing different styles/songs than what the headliner gives.

hey alright! much thanks for the tips!

super excited about JD, but I will definitely get there early to check out Ian James.

I love getting crushed by the beats!

Yeah, get there around 11-12. I prefer getting there around 11 so I can catch a bit of the opening dj. Atlanta has some verrrrry good openers.

Speaking if which, I haven't heard much from Ian James lately. Glad to see he's opening for Digweed.

You coming to Digweed man?

From a female's perspective, Opera is a very classy club...one of the nicest clubs I've been to. It's easy to get around, it's clean as a nightclub can be, the drinks are pricey but potent, and the staff seems receptive and respectful. Now if you're there to pick up girls, then the guys may be able to fill you in on that. To "move" with the ladies can be considered great when welcomed, but if it involves any "pawing" then...you know.:whip:

Yeah, "pawing" people is not really my style. I'm definitely going to be focused on the music, and when I'm dancing I like to do my own thing. I will say, I'm hoping that JD will be on the stage. Can't wait to see him working like a wizard!

You sound like a true Trancer and a gentleman! The new Opera (prior to it was Eleven50) has the dj stage up high and away from public access. Before the renov, the stage was in the face of fans and at that time fans were able to hand over $ to djs for autographs. In my case was able to pass a bill to AVB for his autograph which will never be spent!
