No, they're supposed to be releasing the Black Freighter on it's own on DVD or something.

they only mentioned like a line or two about pirates in the movie.

Can someone explain what the Black Freighter is supposed to represent? Why do we see Shea pop up randomly throughout the comic (eg. Him approaching Nite Owl directly)

Like every other movie that follows the Sin City/300 style, The Watchmen is a long, boring movie with neat camera angles and cool visuals.

The script was pure cheese, but given that it's taken directly out of a comic book, that doesn't surprise me one bit. My favourite moment was at the end of the movie, before the end of the sentence when the chick's mom was like 'I couldn't be mad at him...' half the theater filled in "because he gave me you" and let out a great big groan when that's exactly what she said.

If you need to read the book first in order to enjoy the movie then it must not be such a great movie.

Fight Club, LOTR, pretty much all of the Superman and Batman movies, Shawshank, Spiderman, Jurassic Park, the Godfather movies, Clockwork Orange - should I go on? - all of these were thoroughly enjoyable to readers and non-readers, and if you were a non-reader, they sometimes made you want to go read the book.

I haven't seen the movie yet - but these comments telling people to go read the book and then watch it again, actually make me want to see it less.

You don't have to read the book. A lot of people went and saw it without having read the book. It's the people who have seen the movie and say they hate it are the ones who SHOULD read the book or should have at least taken a peek at it and probably would have understood the movie better. People are expecting super hero's and think " well the super hero's suck". What super hero's?

Lord of the Rings.

The books were good for one thing. Curing insomnia. When I read the books, I literally skipped everything past the 5th chapter and went straight to the Helm's Deep battle, and despite skipping 55% of the book, I missed NOTHING IMPORTANT in the story. Go figure.

That's exactly the point though. Since when do you have to "understand" a movie? It's the movie's job to make you understand! You know, as in with a plot and character development?

The people who have seen the movie and say they hate it... hate it. End of story. The comic is irrelevant.

It's not that we don't understand it.

It's that it's BORING, and has a cheesy script.

There's a ton of that. Which is one of the reasons people 'hate' it so much. One of the main things about the movie is what MAKES the movie and people seem to not like it. Their loss.

throughout the comic, its just a history of each character and teh anticipation of world war three as a sideplot to Rorschach's investigation of the mask killer..thats 10 of the 12 comics..
