PA system advice

I've been in the market for quite some time for a PA system; something capable of sounding really good at indoor events, yet powerful enough to power outdoor events as well. I've looked at quite a few used systems, but just don't know enough about them to make a decision.
Any suggestions as far as looking at active vs. passive speakers.
Speaker brand
If passive speakers, amps to be used, etc.
Subs required?
I'm looking to spend 3-4000$, although it's a flexible budget.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. |

What size events?
You after volume, quality, bass response?
One thing I'd say is absolute is Subs. But again the size and umber of which is totally variable on the application.
House party could be rocked with a few active speakers (2x Bass and 2-4 Mid-Hi units).
Festival? Jesus I don't even wanna know how many speakers they use at those big places, must be in the hundereds though. |

Thanks for your response.
I guess I'd lean more towards quality than power, however, I would like to be able to set up outdoors sometime for a small to medium size event without any power issues. I'm not talking HUGE outdoor events, but just normal sized outdoor parties, etc.
I've been looking at a used PA system which includes:
(2) Mackie Powered SR1521z
(2) Mackie Powered SWA1801z
(2) Ultimate Support TS-99B Speaker Stands
(4) XLR's
for a pretty awesome price- in comparison to what it would cost new. Anybody with any reviews on these?
Thanks again |

tbh, that would prolly do it.
if it lacks just add some more bass to it later. |

Thanks again.. I think I'm going to roll with this setup. I think it should provide plenty of power for what I'd be using it for- and sound good, too.
Now to figure out the best (and cheapest) way to get it from Minneapolis to Fort Wayne, IN |
