remix vs cover song

For example , Armin van Buuren did a remix of the popular tv show 24. The full title of the song is: Armin Van Buuren - The Longest Day (24 theme)
Isn't the right method : (producers of the theme song name here) - 24 (AVB remix)
I am still confused about the fine line between remixes and a cover song. In this case with Armin and 24, it is a cover song the way it is titled.. just a fancy word play to keep the original theme but to let people know it is the new producers version.
If someone can explain this more clearly that would be great |

| I think this particular track was just an entirely new production with a few references in there to the tv series. Which in term would explain why it is considered an original instead of remix :). |

Remix = using elements of the original
Cover = recreating the original without any parts of the original
In general. You can also get the rights to the composition so you can release it under your own name. |
