They've got the right idea in most of Europe; prices advertised are with tax included, and it's rare to see the "x.99" marketing gimmick (does that really fool anyone anymore?).
I've gotten used to it though. I just keep a bunch of coin rolls at home, empty out all my change every few days except for a few loonies and toonies, and take it to the bank a couple of times a year. |

well this thread is focused on those big heavy loonies and toonies u get back from servers at bars/clubs/whatever which u fail to use up cos bills are easier to pull out and end up wiht a heavy pocket going home..

Loonies you can roll up too.
Toonies, I'm not sure, probably not. But if we're talking about drinks at clubs then you should be using up your toonies, because almost every drink is just over $5. So you put down the $5, plus a toonie. Problem solved.
If you're really ending up with a ton of those then it's your fault, not the bar's. |

Man! That reminds me how shocked I was at learning that all prices were as listed, INCLUDING TAX, when I went over to Ireland when I was around 15.
Man, that was so nice! Loved it. Within 2 days I think I was really wishing that it were as such back in Canada. :( |

I assumed you actually had a wallet and that the change was built up over several days. If you really have $25 in coins at the end of a single night, and you didn't bring any with, then you need to start bringing fewer bills in the first place. Really, how much do you drink, and is it honestly SO hard to dig up a $2 coin instead of another $5 bill?

Good to know, although I find it's pretty easy to get rid of toonies; take 5, pay for lunch or a coin-op wash, and you're done. |
