Big Love to all my Irish friends!!!
According to Wikipedia:
St. Patrick was a Welsh missionary that converted Ireland to Christianity.
He also is said to have banished snakes from the island and used the shamrock as a symbol of the Holy Trinity in his teachings.

how many people actually know the story of St Patrick and what is actually being celebrated?
Or is it just another excuse to get drunk?
lol....i'm irish. I'm pretty sure my dad told me the story of St. Patrick when i was little. I THINK the story is, that he scared all the snakes out of ireland...or something like that....so they named a day after him and the irish celebrate it by getting drunk of course!

Yea, it's just that people have no idea what it means, and just use it as an excuse to get drunk. Because that's what all Irish people do best, right?
